Yes it's a bit away from Chiang Mai (approx 25 minutes drive) but that distance means you're in a peaceful setting away from it all. We were upgraded to a bungalow with interconnecting rooms (32 and 33). The rooms are nice enough especially considering the price (we paid $100 total for BOTH rooms!).
We had dinner there one night and it was mostly fantastic especially the Tom Yum soup - best I've ever had.
Breakfast is a buffet - my only complaint would be the coffee was terrible and there was nowhere to get an espresso for breakfast.
I didn't get to explore the grounds but our kids did and really enjoyed the animals on the resort. We all enjoyed the pool and appreciated that it was salt water.
I think like most places in Thailand, the biggest challenge is being able to communicate; because our son has food allergies and we need to be crystal clear in our instructions, it often took several people before we could find someone who really understood us.
Having said that, everyone seemed very friendly and helpful.
