“Very pretty hotel in central location”
Reviewed 5 September 2013 via mobile

Very pretty traditional French hotel overlooking a beautiful courtyard and huge magnolia tree. Restaurant also in this courtyard. Lovely, clean, quiet rooms with excellent air conditioning and spacious bathrooms.
Never any staff to be seen though. You had to ring a bell and wait for someone to come from the garden area. Breakfast was okay...served in the courtyard, but we always felt like we were inconveniencing staff when we turned up...as nothing was ready. Good location though and as the rooms were good we could put up with the staffing issues.

This is a very lovely old-style French hotel in the very centre of Calvi. You enter through a very pretty and totally secluded walled courtyard garden which is dominated by a huge old magnolia tree after which the hotel is named. The hotel itself is quiet and just like a well kept typical upper 3 star hotel of the sort you would have found in Paris in the late 1960's; however, they have added decent air conditioning and good sound-proofing on the windows which makes the rooms remarkably quiet when you consider that this place is only just off the central church square and main shopping street. The bedrooms and bathrooms are well furnished and up to date and are well kept and clean. The atmosphere of the place is relaxed and the only real snag is an absence of anyone on reception (and therefore on room service) most of the time. Breakfast is a bit average - rather thin orange juice and croissants which taste like they are from a supermarket pack rather than fresh from the local bakery - and, like so many French hotels, they have no idea how to make a decent cup of fresh coffee. So, lapses in service aside, this is a very nice traditional style of hotel in a superb location. We enjoyed our stay.

i was disappointed with this hotel. It was quite clean but not very comfortable. i had paid for a 'garden view room' on the ground floor as my husband has difficulty with stairs. The room was very dark which meant we needed to use the lights; however 3 of the five bulbs in the light fitting didn't work and of the remaining 2 one flashed constantly. I asked if this could be remedied but was told 'non' it's a faulty connection. After 2 days i asked to change rooms. This request was met with complete disdain. We did eventually move to a street view room which was marginally better. There was never anyone on reception, you had to ring a bell and wait if you needed a receptionist. Breakfast was 10 Euros per person and was not very plentiful and was exactly the same each day, bread, croissant juice and coffee. On the third day we entered the restaurant and felt very unwelcome all the tables were laid for dinner and the waitress seemed annoyed that we had gone in for breakfast; despite the fact that we had gone there at the same time each day! She brusquely removed the wine glasses and laid the table for breakfast without so much as a 'Bonjour' I then cancelled our breakfast arrangement and found a local patisserie which had more choice and was far cheaper. The only advantage in staying in this hotel is that it is in the centre of Calvi. However the staff are the least welcoming I've ever experienced in a hotel.

Room Tip: The best room is room number 14 on the ground floor it has a small balcony and is lighter than the o...

My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here. I think it may be family run, but the staff were very nice whether they were in the reception or restaurant areas. The room wasnt particularly spacious, but it was adequate, very clean and quaintly decorated. Our evening dinner was amazing. The scenery is very pretty as there is a huge magnolia tree situated in the middle of the courtyard with dining tables are set all around. We started off with the muscles and they were the best muscles we have ever tasted. The whole dinner experience whether it was to do with the food, the staff or the setting was first class and good value for money. Would love to go back there another time.

Room Tip: We had room 11. I didnt see any of the other rooms, but it was very quaint and clean and had a view...

We stayed at Le Magnolia on our first night in Corsica just of fthe ferry from Nice and again on our last night. It is right in the middle of the old town but quiet, behind high walls, and with a magnificent Magnolia tree shading the restaurant in the courtyard. Charming and helpful staff apart from the owner / manager (?) who was not too keen on climbing the stairs to reception, and who we had to call back for a second trip because she forgot to provide the password for the (excellent) wifi.
Extremely comfortable and clean rooms, classy traditional decor.

Best location in between the harbour and better restaurants. Also close walk to the citadel. Friendly service, good breakfast, and not all that expensive. Make sure you walk up to the citadel to see the birth house of columbus, his own square and statue. Then ask yourself, wasn't he born in Genova? -:)

This small hotel is lovely. It's hidden in the quiet street and it may take a while to discover, but it worth it. Small, but very nice garden where you can have breakfast, nice rooms. be sure you will visit this hotel with your beloved one, otherwise it's not for you.
