We visited Chateau du Hohlandsbourg while driving down the wine route. You can walk around the entire castle area upon the ramparts and the views are simply amazing. There are activities for the kids on certain days. There's also a museum and an open air cafe. The drive up is really lovely through the forest. The really nice thing about this castle is there are far less people there. We recommend it.

Walked here as part of the 'Five Chateaux' route. Chateau very interesting but it was very expensive to enter (I concur with some of the previous comments).

Definitely worth visiting but beware of the cost.

The winding and narrow road leading up to the medieval castle is already atmospheric, going through dark forest. The chateau is not of the largest of its style, but it has a magnificent 360 o
view of the river plain, the city of Colmar to the east, and the mountains surrounding it. Medieval banquets, jousting and other spectacles take place during the summer, guided tour can be had on the 20 m high walls and inside the courtyard. There is a restaurant, and a small museum, something of interest for the whole family.

A real trip to the middle age in a typical squarred formed fortress which is unique in its style worldwide.
Reconstruction was mostly sponsored by the community and in summer you can enjoy medieval days and evening including menus in the restaurant. Go enjoy and if you have kids, you will have made their day ...

You feel like you are in the medieval age. It's view is amazing and it's fun to walk through the castle and explore it and its grounds. Worth a trip up the curvy road.
