“Excellent day out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2014

We combined the trip to the railway museum with a trip to the national car museum. (You can get a discount ticket if you are visiting both attractions).

very interesting trip trough the history of French railways, lots of engines and carriages to look at, as well as other railway memorabilia, there were also a few films about the resistance and the railways in the war.

well worth the trip

“Un très bon musée - intéressant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2014

This attraction is misnamed - it should be Cité du Train.

An interesting and fascinating museum that recounts the development of the French railway system. Even my wife found it interesting.

I concur with another reviewer who felt that the main hall was very dark, and therefore photographs didn't come out very well. Perhaps this is done deliberately (to protect the artifacts and minimise 'bootleg' photos on the internet), but it is disappointing.

However, it's still a fascinating place and well worth a trip to Mulhouse.

(And buying a double ticket - Automobile and Train museums - helps save a few Euro.)

“Great museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2014

The museum is a must visit to anyone coming to the Mulhouse area, eailly reached on tram 3 or the Tram Train from the city centre, the museum displays lots of different trains from the 1800's right up to the present day, with an interesting commentary about them. There is a large train set as well

“great reveiw of French Railways technology”

The interactive displays were very informative. I would have expected a better display of the TGV.

The impact of the war years was very real.

“For train fanatics!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2014

According to the Wikipedia this is the biggest railway museum in the world, so prepare to walk. I am not a big fan of trains in any way, but I found this museum interesting, although I found some parts of the museum a bit boring, as many steam locomotives look very similar to each other. Most of trains you will not be able to enter, which is a big minus. Not the best museum for small kids, even though it is walkable through with a stroller. If you are a fan of (old) trains, then go!
