“Fantastic hotel in a beautiful town”
Reviewed 9 September 2012

we (family of 4) stayed one night in Obernai in late August. Hotel is very clean and the room was big and modern. Reasonably priced and nice breakfast. Would definitely go back. We were also recommended a nearby restaurant (La Dime) as we wanted to eat traditional Alsatian dishes - absolutely fantastic - very much recommended. Didnt see much of the town but looked beautiful - typical of this part of this beautiful part of France.

We just spent three wonderful days at Hotel la Diligence in Obernai in room 331. The room was huge with a fireplace (not sure if it worked or not) in the room's foyer area. The bed was large and comfortable, the room was very clean and well stocked, the bathroom was super clean albeit a bit small but fine, reception personnel super helpful and friendly, and breakfast (a little over Euro 8 per person per day) was very good. The room had a superb view of the main square, belfry, hotel de ville, and so, so many 1/2 timbered houses around the square. Many other reviewers have whined about the church bells... I guess they've forgotten this is EUROPE where the churches have bells. Sure, we heard the bells but they didn't bother our sleep in the least and as the whiners have mentioned, they do stop between midnight and 0700. Overall, this is one of the better 2-stars we've stayed at in France. Don't waste money on the paid hotel parking as metered and free street parking is available all over the town within a 5 minute walk. And, the meters are free between 1900-0900 anyways. We used Obernai as a base (we've visited Obernai previously) to explore other parts of Alsace so we didn't park in the town all day long. But free parking, I assure you, is plentiful (I did that on our day of arrival without problem). Obernai is a small town easily walkable in a couple hours and does make a good base to explore the region, then come back for dinner. Without a doubt, we'll return. I've already booked again for next April. Spend the few extra Euro for one of the larger rooms (we did). It is well worth the room and views of the old town.

Room Tip: Spend the extra Euro for a better room. We had 331 on the corner with a view of Mt Ste Odile, the h...

Nothing dramatically wrong with the hotel, it was reasonably cheap and was a 2* and probably offers reasonable value for money - but it was faded & outdated. The welcome was not good but subsequent dealings with reception were fine. There is parking a short walk away in an open-air car park or a few spaces in an enclosed garage - all at a charge.

Location was great, right on the main square and within a few yards of the small shopping area, which has some interesting shops, at least 3 selling textiles both by the metre and as made-up tableware etc.

The Christmas Market was a waste of time, hardly any stalls and it closed very early.

Nice place, has a bed and breakfast feel, except there is no coffee in the room. The room has a beautiful view of the city center of Obernai but that comes with a price-church bells ringing and ringing loud. They chimed every 15 minutes and then rang loud on the hour, it stopped at midnight and restarts at 7am. Did not eat the breakfast instead walked to a nearby bakery which was very tasty. The elevator up to my floor was by far the smallest lift I have ever seen, very tight squeeze with bags. Staff spoke some english, no parking so you must find street parking and feed the meter during hours of 9am to 7pm then its free. The bed was comfy with soft sheets, no wash clothes in bathroom. Ate at local rest just down street called the Freiburg and had the local dish Baeckeoffe and it was delicious. Overall great stay, would go back again.

L'hotel de la diligence is everything a cosy auberge should be, you feel welcome from the moment you arrive, the rooms are cosy, and the location is fantastic.
The first time we stayed there, our room was so good that we asked for it again 3 months later (It had a lovely view of the square of the of clock tower).
It is ideally located for all that Obernai has to offer and for the surrounding areas thanks to its very secure car park.

Can't believe there isn't already a review for this Logis de France gem. The Hotel is set in the town square. Our room was well sized with shuttered windows looking out onto the town square. Now this is what staying in France is all about. The only downside there is, is the church bells that toll every quarter hour. But a small price for staying in this lovely town.
Friendly english speaking reception staff. Breakfast was included in our rate, and was a buffet with big choice of pastries, fruit, meats and cheese, so can set you up for the day. As we were travelling in our car, secure garaging was paramount. No problem there as the hotel has (limited) garaging spaces in an underground carpark around the corner. This felt secure as it was a garage in a garage if you follow my drift.
