If you're looking for a beautiful house where time seems to move at a slightly slower speed, where breakfast comes with house-made apple juice and jam, where the owners welcome you with a bottle of wine (that stems from a family member's vineyard) and invest a lot of time and effort into decorating both their own and their guests' quarters... If that's what you're looking for, Le Chat Rouge is the perfect place for you.
The location is remote and peaceful, set well away from the busy tourist locations the Alsace has to offer yet close enough to require only a short drive to one of the medieval villages that attract tourists by the bus. Having rented the studio, we spent an extended weekend alternating between traipsing through nature (you can start your hike right at Le Chat Rouge), dining out (Edit and Maurice are happy to recommend good restaurants), checking out a couple of Christmas markets and taking advantage of the well-designed kitchen that comes with the studio.
Speaking of well-designed: The studio is a beautiful example of interior design that is both subtly luxurious and immensely comfortable, with a large window front offering an amazing view over the valley and two beds (both queen-sized, I think) tucked underneath the roof on the upper level. Everything is pretty and spotless and complements the old building. (Maurice also detailed plans of building a fireplace on the ground level, as a place for guests to gather, chat and eat.)
While we were there in winter, during weather that was far from ideal, we thoroughly enjoyed this little oasis. I'm sure it's even more beautiful and charming when you can lounge outside in the courtyard.
Highly recommended for style, tranquility and immensely friendly hosts.
