This was one of the best meals of our recent visit to Alsace. The weather was glorious, so we sat outside in the beautiful terrace. The attention from the staff, including the chef, M. Fritz himself, was excellent, and advice was offered and taken. The food was of top quality and served artistically with discretion. Wine came in reasonably priced carafes, and the whole lunch was superb.
Highly recommended.

We appreciated the dinner in this restaurant: well explained menu, nice variety of dishes, tasty food and nice service. We can only advise anyone who likes good food to stop there.

Just a stone's throw from our hotel in Obernai, we were very satisfied with our experience at L'Ami Fritz. It's a good place to try out the local cuisine and the service was attentive. Be sure to make a reservation, especially on a Sunday, as most restaurants in the area are closed that day. I wouldn't say that the food was especially creative, but it was tasty and well prepared. Pleasant all the way around.

Driving into Ottrott and the hitel we stayed I immediately loved the garden setting for dinner at L'Ami Fritz for a warm summer evening. Arriving there without a reservation the owner was not helpful to give us a table until finally a nice waiter convinced her that there was sure a possibility for 2 more guest. The evening showed that at least 1 big table and a small one were noshows. Service and setting in the garden was great and we had a very nice evening only setback was that the menue sounded more exciting then it was. Especially the main fish filet dish had so many bones it was sure not pleasant eating. Better make reservation and do not put the food expectations to high. Pleasant setting for average food.

While spending a relaxing week-end in Alsace and visiting the local sights - don't miss out on the Château Haut Koenigsburg in particular if you travel in the region -, we also wanted to sample the rightly famed local cuisine. Some research prior to our visit had led us to L'Ami Fritz in the small town Ottrott, it having the substantial advantage that it was within walking distance to our hotel (thus making it easier to drink some wine to accompany the meal).

We had booked a table beforehand, and seeing how packed the restaurant was upon our arrival I would also recommend to do this if you want to be sure to have a table. We were quickly provided with the menu and chose to have the "Menu sentier des saveurs" (45 EUR per person), each of us going for a different option to taste as many different dishes as possible. Before starting with the menu itself, we ordered a tasteful apéritif, a sparkling wine combined with peach sirup (I believe).

The restaurant also has a substantial wine list, but we chose to have two glasses each with wines from the region to accompany our starters and main courses. The food was clearly made from local products for the most part, and was consistently delicious. We started with scollops for her and foie gras (goose / duck) for me, both of which were really good. The main course was "Baeckeofe" (a local way of preparing a dish in the oven, letting it simmer for a very long time) of pikeperch, which was also very well prepared. Finishing with a "crumble à la rhubarbe" which in my opinion was better than the "soufflé glacé" that my better half had (which was soaked in a really strong prune alcohol), we had also enjoyed the wines that were suggested by our attentive waiter - a pinot gris for the starters and then a local red ("rouge d'Ottrott") for the main course.

The atmosphere was very friendly (exception made for the guests on the neighbouring table where a woman was constantly berating her boyfriend, but we ignored that for the most time) and cozy, with a very Alsace charm to it.

All in all, while this is no high-end gourmet restaurant, it nevertheless serves excellent local food, provides attentive service and a very comfortable atmosphere. We enjoyed the evening very much and would not hesitate to come back.
