“Delightful and homey!”

We spent a week in this wonderfully renovated apartment located at the top of the walled city of Riquewihr. Riquewihr is a gorgeous town. I highly recommend visiting and the surrounding area is beautiful as well. The apartment is well managed by the attentive and sweet Valerie. The location is perfect, close to parking but still within the ancient walls. The interior is perfectly appointed with 2 beautiful bedrooms - one on the ground floor which was perfect for my sister and her heavy suitcase and one on the third floor which was large and spacious enough for my teenage daughter and myself to share. Each bedroom had it's own modern bathroom with large corner tubs and the coolest faucet/shower contraption I have seen. AND there were wonderful bathrobes provided as well which was a nice surprise! The kitchen was fully stocked with pots and pans and even some leftover spices, rice and pasta. It has a nice cone filter coffee maker and there was another coffee maker but we unfortunately couldn't figure out how to use it. The only two minor complaints we would have would be that the Internet only worked in the uncomfortable dining room and it was sporadic even then and that the tv in the living room was busted (granted we were three women and were clueless how to get it to work. We couldn't even figure out how to turn the power off of it. The screen stayed lit the whole 7 days which drove my conservationist self crazy :). All in all a truly beautiful, spacious and comfy place to say.

Management Response

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the apartment and the area. I would like to take this opportunity to point out some technical aspects about the Dove's Nest house. The second coffee machine is a Nespresso machine making a wonderful expresso. It needs special capsules of coffee to work. It is possible to order them from us when booking or from any Nespresso shop. The large TV in the living room is coupled with a DVD, CD and FM system. It is also offering satellite channels as well as terrestrial digital TV. I have to admit that this complex equipment might sometimes be difficult to handle. Apart from the technical manuals available in several languages, our house manager is always happy to help when necessary. She can be reached with the telephone available in the living room which is also offering a free call service anywhere in the world. On the same table there is a computer with an internet adsl connection. The cable can be connected to any computer and provides then a very quick connection without having to use the wifi. But of course, if the internet service provider fails, all our equipment can only wait until the connection returns :-)

“Dove's Nest At Christmas”
Reviewed 2 June 2012 for a stay in December 2011

We spent 4 nights in Dove's Nest around Christmas with our 2 teenagers who loved having 3 floors and the quaintness of an ancient house restored for modern comforts. Unfortunately they scored the lovely loft bedroom with the king bed, while we poor parents were relegated to the ground floor queen room - but it was the trade off for them sharing a bed. And they loved it. Given it was Christmas week, and Riquewhihr is one of the big attractions in the Alsace at this time of the year, the village was crowded from morning to night and parking ( metered) at a premium. But staying in the village and going out each day, meant we had to it ourselves in the eary mornings and late evenings. The house is well managed, with a professional booking arrangement and local agent Valerie was accommodating . A Christmas tree in the living room (with a peat burning fire box) was a very thoughful touch, as were cocktails one evening organised by the owners for their guests staying in their various properties. Very nice hosts and a charming and interesting place to stay in a lovely region.

Liked best: Location in the Riquewihr wall so an historic house but very prettily restored
Liked least: That the kids got the loft bedroom, and the second bedroom heater was possibly faulty and not able to be turned off at night but presumably since fixed.

“Huge Beautiful Period Apartment in a Perfect Riquewihr Location”

We stayed here with another couple, for a week of relaxation and wine tasting in the Alsace. We were showed the apartment by the very friendly and affable Valerie, who spoke very good english. We stayed in the Gewurtztraminer apartment that can sleep up to 8 people but we found it perfect for four. There is also parking available very close by for a little extra and was totally worth the money. Overall, the apartment is in a slightly higher price range but if there are four (or even six) of you, you won't spend any more here than you would in a decent hotel on a nightly basis, and with this you have a stunning 17th century building with absolutely everything you need from a large front room to a decently equipped kitchen and a view right over the main street of Riquewihr. There are actual separate bedrooms on different floors; total privacy from the other people in your party. There was even a grand piano! You can see the apartment on i-love-riquewihr.com. The entire booking process is very well managed. Were we to come back to Riquewihr, this would be our first choice.

“Best place in the Haute Rhin Alsace wine region”
Reviewed 15 June 2011 for a stay in May 2011

The Krebs family owns a few rentals within the ancient walls of the town, and are renovating another property to add to their collection. One could not ask for a more well managed, centrally located, immaculate and charming place to stay in a town that is the most visited in the area. From check-in to check-out, everything went smoothly. The place we rented, called "Sentinel", is really suited for two adults in that it is a duplex with the bath on the second floor, right off the bedroom. A pull-out couch in the living area would accommodate an additional couple or two kids. The property is actually built into the wall of the city--you couldn't get closer to being part of the local scene, with bakeries and wine shops just around the corner. Wonderful.
