Just spent a weekend in this hotel with our kids, double bedroom was clean and spacious, the hotel needs to be "refreshed". Kind of old looking, but for 120 € for 4 persons next to the beach what do you expect ? My husband had breakfast at the hotel, we didn't => don't spend the 9 € per person not worst it !

The charm of Arcachon lies in its location and its century-old ambience. Don't miss the delightfully frivolous villas and bungalows in the Summer and Winter towns, a unique architectural heritage that illustrates the exuberance of a late 19th century seaside resort.

The Roc Hotel is a convenient base with friendly and good enough service, but it hardly shares in the charming heritage of the town. it is neither bright, modern and sleek, nor grand, old and charming. It's a throwback just thirty years or so to the 1980s, complete with tomato-soup carpets and garish bedspreads. Probably value for money, but not quintessentially Arcachonais.

Stayed here while visiting family in the town. The Hotel is very well situated, the reception staff were helpful.
However the rooms were very outdated - lots of dark wood panelling made for quite an oppressive feeling. The bed wasn't particularly comfortable. The shower, whilst powerful, was a hand held attachment over the bath which made it a bit tricky to use.
I just feel that the hotel needs to be modernised. The room had a small balcony and the air con was very effective but we would have appreciated a kettle in the room and some larger towels.
Great potential but financial investment needed.

Good points:
Air con was very good and very easy to use which meant we didn't have t open the balcony door to the noisy street so slept fine!
The shower was surprisingly strong as usually in hotels showers can often be very weak but not at the Roc hotel!
Receptionists were very friendly and helpful
breakfast was nice
Location is very handy

Bad points:
Decor needs updating

Stayed here for 2 nights - had we not prepaid as part of a bike tour we would have moved. Whilst we could not fault the service from the Reception staff at all who were all really pleasant polite and helpful, the hotel let itself down badly from the shabby decor and really uncomfortable and hard beds. The bathrooms definitely needed badly updating, it was almost impossible to have a decent shower with the over bath attachment and we had to move rooms as the first room we had the plastic plug broke off. The breakfast was very ordinary and bland, not impressed with anything here except Receptionists and the central location of the hotel.

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the garden if you want a quiet room

stayed for two nights at the end of June 2011. This is an odd hotel which I found hard to review. It appears that what is still two hotels - the nominally three star Roc and the adjoining two star Moderne (Perhaps there is irony involved in the name) appear to be jointly managed with one reception desk. The hotel was by no means busy when we stayed, which was at the tail end of a heatwave. Our room was intlerably hot and the modern split aircon unit wasn't working, mysteriously. In fact, there was no power to the control unit at all, leading me to suspect that this was actually deliberate. No-one was seen working on thensystem for the two days we were there either, which was suspicious. Interestingly, an earlier review notes the lack of air conditioning.

Anyway, as a result of this we had to sleep with the balcony door open The room overlooked the road outside the hotel and it was extremely noisy, largely due to drunken revellers shouting, singing and being oretty offensive until about 4am. We didn't sleep. The hotel could not even provide a fan, which would have helped considerably.

Otherwise, the hotel appeared stuck, in terms of decor at least, in the 1970s (take a look at the lounge) although everything, aircon excepted, was exceptionally well maintained and spotlessly clean. Whilst looking good the staff were great, and whilst we had to pay for wifi, €5 for four days won't break the bank. Breakfast was very good too.

So, probably unlucky with extremely hot weather and lack of aircon, but otherwise I would stay again for a centrally located, cheap and functional stay, at a place the likes of which you don't see many of these days.
