We spent 6 nights in the hotel. Lovely hotel with nice romantic atmosphere. The staff is very friendly, nice and helpful. We got room no 8 in the main Building with huge balcony and private Jacuzzi. The dining in their restaurant was superb and unforgettable.

Room Tip: rooms in the main building are nice with a river view. If you prefer a room with a bath you should a...

My wife and I stayed three nights in Room #4 in late April. It was a corner room with windows overlooking the Dronne River and gardens. Absolutely gorgeous. Safe parking in a cave! The staff were very friendly, courteous, and professional. The dining in their starred Michelin restaurant was superb and unforgettable. The only complaint was their WiFi service didn't extend to our room but it did work elsewhere in the hotel. We would return in a heartbeat.

If a total experience is what you crave, then look no further,....in fact, for the apex to a trip in France this has to be the ace. I think of it as mini- perfection.

My femme likened it to the Venice of the Perigord,an ivy clad mill that's the most delightful in the Dordogne. look out across the grassed terrace to the impressive 16th century bridge, through the monastery garden, the medieval tower, pavilion and the famous abbey ,founded by Charlemagne.

What an ideal base for exploring the richness and diversity of the region. the room was both inviting and elegant with an outlook to a waterfall beneath your window. Greatest sleep had in a week of travel. the dining room opens onto a shady terrace on the river bank.

Why,oh why,do we have to leave?

We spent one night at this quaint beautiful town. We chose this hotel because of its convenient location to walk everywhere we wanted to go, as well as its beautiful surroundings. The hotel is spread in 3 separate buildings which are quite different from each other in terms of location, age, and type of accommodation. We specifically requested a room in the main building because we wanted to be close to the water. Our request was honoured and our river-view room was nicely prepared with fruit and chocolates (this was to make up for problems with our original booking). The room, however, was tiny and although it had been renovated with modern comforts, its layout with the sink outside the washroom with no door to the sleeping area, was quite inconvenient if one of us wanted to rest while the other one wanted to use the sink (light and noise could not be avoided). Most importantly was the outside noise: when we open the window to see and hear the sound of the water, we realized that the water dam was just in front of the facade of the building facing the river. The noise was quite unbearable and we ended up closing the window. Staff, though not very experienced were nice throughout our stay. We did not try the restaurant because there are many other more reasonable choices nearby.

Room Tip: There are three locations to chose from. The choice depends on your priorities. Rooms in the main bu...

There can be few hotels in the world where the car park is a huge cave. Or where the room has its own private terrace (with jacuzzi) overlooking a thundering waterfall, a delightful river, mediaeval town buildings and an 18th century abbey, complete with 12th century bell tower. It is simply enchanting. Double glazing ensures that sound levels in the room at night are minimal. We were overwhelmed on arrival at Le Moulin de l'Abbaye to be given this fabulous room as an upgrade at no extra cost. The reception staff at the hotel could not have been more friendly or helpful. Meals in the riverside restaurant were outstanding, but the town has a number of other very good restaurants. When we had to leave the hotel early in the morning, a boxed breakfast was organised with no fuss.

The quaintness and setting of this hotel is undeniable. Situated right on the river adjacent to the beautifully ancient stone bridge and a short walk to the Abbaye, the ambience of this town, even on an overcast day, is amazing.
We stayed here for three nights on the river side overlooking the town and parkland. The rooms although compact, were beautifully appointed with quality fixtures and l'occitane products in the bathroom area. We loved listening to the sound of the river running and opened our soundproof shutters at night (after they had been closed by the staff).
We ate in the restaurant only once . Impeccable as the service was, we felt there was a bit of overkill with the food descriptions at every course.
The food was of good quality but we felt that it was expensive and a bit pretentious. We know good food but we also like value for money.
Breakfast also was expensive and we elected to eat at one of the brasseries in town while people watching.
Overall a pleasant stay but would try another less pretentious hotel.

After a long drive from Caen, arriving mid afternoon, the check in was mercifully efficient, and our car was valet parked with a smile. Our room on the ground floor of the main building overlooked the river and weir, and having been lulled to sleep by the sound of running water we awoke early evening to enjoy a complimentary cocktail in the very cosy and attractive bar, before descending to the riverside restaurant. Unfortunately it was a wet evening and we were unable to enjoy the fantastic food sitting at a table on the patio by the river. However the restaurant is charming, and the service impeccable, all you would expect from a top French restaurant. This is not a cheap hotel, but because of its location and overall standard it is worth the cost. Just wish it had been a fine evening, so we could have enjoyed a drink on the terrace before dinner on the patio by the river. Only criticism is our room was on the small side, but it is a converted mill house!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main building, overlooking the river.
