“Should have walked away from it.”

As already reported, the staff could do with lessons on politeness. The waitress was very abrupt in relation to where my wife parked her mobility scooter, and asked her to move it. Should have walked away at that stage. We had chicken and chips which was a bit dried out and had probably been hanging around a bit. Will not be going back.

We studied the menu and decided that, not being very hungry, it would be nice to sit beside the river with a glass of wine and a starter each. We took our seats and were immediately asked 'are you eating?' When we replied 'yes' we were told to move to other tables which were fully laid up for meals, we therefore felt we should say that we only wanted a snack. 'I don't do snacks' was the reply from the officious woman. 'What about a starter from your menu' we asked; the reply was simply 'No!' There was no attempt to accommodate us or please us in any way, the woman was rude! The restaurant was not busy and we could not understand why they should want to turn away custom. Will avoid this place in the future, even if we want a full meal. If I could give a zero rating I would.

The location is one of the best in Brantome, which means this restaurant will get customers regardless of the service or the food. Had to wait almost an hour for our drinks (just drinks) on a hot summers day. We should have left way before this point and there wasnt even an apology for the wait from any of the waiting staff. The food followed about an hour after this and was nice, nothing special though. Would suggest the restaurant next door, where the staff appeared a lot more friendly and the service seemed far superior.. we looked on in envy at the customers in there

Lovely setting next to the river - ignored on entry and not a smile from any of the staff. It took 35 minutes from arrival to the first drinks to be brought , food poor . My confit de canard was overcooked and dry and they had run out of demi bottles of vin blanc , never ending queues for the single toilet. I totally understand we went on one of the busiest weeks of the year but there is no excuse for rudeness and I would suggest that the owner really doesn't give a damn . A uniquely poor experience for France. If it wasn't for my better half I would have left without paying. I don't suppose they would even notice as they were that disinterested.

We compared the menus of the two terrace restaurants next to each other: this one and Le Bar du Marché. We preferred to eat more authentic French food rather than pizzas. As a family with smaller children we need to eat slightly earlier. At 6.45pm we approached the terrace and asked in French wheather it was possible to have a table of 4 to have a meal. The lady placing the condiments on the fully laid up tables (owner?) came across very harassed, almost shouting, to say we could not take a seat and we had to wait next door and have a drink there. An English speaking waiter then came over to say we had to come back at 7pm and did we want to reserve a table. No courtesy, no smile and a seriously bad attitude to customers. Needless to say we moved on quickly.
