“Peaceful, practical, versatile accommodation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2013 for a stay in July 2011

We have stayed several times at both this and the owners other property, The Farmhouse Petit Garem, and have found them to be perfect for our needs. The properties are well appointed, spacious, clean and well maintained.

The area is beautiful for walks, cycle rides and wildlife. Local towns and villages offer all that you require within a 20 minute drive. A car is essential to a stay here.

If you are looking for a property that is not in the hustle and bustle of a typical tourist rental area, you would find it hard to better either of these properties.

“Top quality Villa, beautiful countryside location.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2013 for a stay in June 2013

This Villa is located in a small hamlet in the middle of the French countryside.
A car is essential to visit the fantastic sights nearby. The villa is spacious, open plan , very clean and equipped to a high standard. All 4 bedrooms are ensuite, with an extra downstairs toilet too. Bounteous hot water, enough for the 7 of us to have showers every day. Excellent kitchen with large fridge freezer, dishwasher , electric cooker and all the cooking utensils you could want. Seperate utility room with central heating boiler and washing machine. Sky TV and small selection of books, DVDs and board games. Good quality furniture and fittings. The garden looks over a meadow, valley and woodland. For nature lovers this is bliss, as you can see deer, hares, foxes, honey buzzard, hen harrier, woodpeckers, cirl buntings, black redstarts, meadow pipit, black kite and golden oriele without leaving your chair!! The local lanes are very quiet and we enjoyed evening walks spotting orchids on the grass verges and deer in the meadows. There are 2 dining tables, one inside and one outside under the verrandah. The pool is a good size and alarmed. There are plenty of sun loungers, parasols and comfy chairs outside. The local managers are very helpful and we enjoyed meeting them. The neighbours are close on either side, and you do overlook each others gardens a little, but they were friendly and it was very nice to get to know them . The nearest shops are in Agonac, about 5 minutes drive, but there is a Carrefour and Aldi in Brantome, about 10 minutes away by car.

Ideal touring location, equidistant from Limoges and Bergerac Airports- about 1 hour 15 minutes away. Close to beautiful Brantome and Bourdeilles. Visit caves at Villars, the stunning village of St Jean de Cole, go for daytrips to the Dordogne River at Beynac and Sarlat. Visit the Chateaux of Jumilhac, Hautefort, Beynac, Bourdeilles. Daytrip to Jemaye Lake,Riberac Market.
Eat the Confit de Canard, Gizzard salad, Foie Gras, walnuts, Trappe Cheese and other local specialities in local restaurants.
Drive round on empty country lanes with beautiful woodland, meadows and villages round every corner. Go to Agonac for fresh croissants every morning and visit in the evening to hear the frog's chorus.
Sit in the lounge and watch the views through the huge sliding windows.
Listen carefully at night to hear distant nightjars and owls.
Watch the swallows skim the pool on warm days.
Watch the bats over the pool in the evening.
Put on the pool lights and have a midnight swim.
Put off the pool lights and watch a sky full of stars and spot shooting stars.
Lsiten out for the Black Woodpecker in the local woodland - we didnt see him though!
Walk through the forest tracks and hear nothing but glorious birdsong.

Our slight niggles: The tower bedroom does not have a door, it is only separated from the open plan lounge by a staircase, so privacy and noise from the TV downstairs might be an issue. However the open rafters and ceiling made this a spectacular room to stay in, with dual aspect it had lovely views.
No wi-fi (Although this could be wonderful from your point of view!)
