“FINE FOR BACKPACKERS”

The location was fantastic, right in the heart of bustling Sarlat shopping area. The air conditioning was very welcome and the double glazing ensured a noise free environment from outside, pity the hotel floors creaked and squeaked !

Our room was dingy, small and shabbily furnished with a bedside table just about big enough for your mobile phone. The W.C required you to sit down first then shut the door, because it was so small. The decor generally was shabby and the tiles cracked in the shower area. The counterpanes were greasy and marked. By far the worst experience, was the arrival where the OWNER greeted me with a lesson in payment terms and pointing to HIS hotel RULES. We thought payment could have been taken by Amex but this apparantly was not so, we were asked to guarantee the room, which we did by VISA Switch, only to find on the day of departure that the full payment had been taken, using the VISA Switch Card without our authority. We would have used another Credit Card. But just wanted to get out of this place quickly, so left rather then have another heated discussion. We appreciate, that the hotels reviews do not necessarily reflect our review, but this is how we rated our stay.

You're just 100 yards from the medieval city of Sarlat. We liked that we could look down on the main street from our window. But there was only a sheer curtain. At night a street light glaringly shone right on our faces as we tried to sleep. If it weren't for this problem I would speak higher of the hotel.

Room Tip: You want a room that looks out at the lively street action but it has to have curtains that will ke...

Honestly, this place was fantastic. For the price, I couldn't have been more pleased. The rooms were spacious and open, everything was clean, and the staff was extremely helpful. It was a great place to stay two nights.

My only complaint is that, as train travelers, it is on the complete opposite side of town so we had to haul our suitcases a ways. Nothing they can do about that though! And besides, it was worth it.

We stayed here for 2 nights in July 2012 in a three person room. The location is great just 5min to center of old Sarlat. We were lucky to find street parking in front of the hotel both nights, otherwise parking lots are a couple of up hill blocks away. Whereas the hotel is a bit older in was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was was average to a little bit above average for small European hotels. The staff was friendly and helped us find several nearby coin-op laundrymats, the first closed at 8:00pm. The price was 98 euro per night for 3 people which is very reasonable for high tourist season.

We stayed in a 3-bed family room with a babycot in addition. A little bit crammed for space, but we didn´t spend too much time in the room anyway. The room was nicely furnished, and spotlessly clean when we arrived. Great location and good service, a bit of a walk to the parking. Prices was a bit stiff and the breakfast was a waste of money, but overall a very good experience.

This hotel room was so small that there was no room to put the cases anywhere. They had to be stored in the huge bathtub and whilst we stayed in May the room tended to be a little hot and the air conditioner did not work, so I would worry about summer. We did not find the staff at all friendly. I sometimes think that hotels leave their best rooms for latecomers as we booked this hotel months ago and to be given a room so poor was disappointing. Parking was good and the location is excellant.

This hotel is amazing value for money, right in town with restaurants and shops on your doorstep. All staff are very friendly and helpful and we were able to park our motorbike in front of the hotel in their little courtyard area, perfect.

OK, so the rooms are basic but clean, but we had a large bathroom with a freestanding bath and separate shower (Room 8), a well lit bathroom mirror, a bit lacking on hanging space...just a few coat hangers on some pegs, but there was a large draw and shelf along with a long dressing table (no mirror). There was a large mirror on the opposite wall however, and I dried my hair etc in the bathroom which was perfect. The bed was firm and comfortable, and sheets and towels were changed daily. You can hear people upstairs, but we slept well all of our 5 nights and weren't bothered by this.

We had breakfast on the first morning (8 Euros per person) which consisted of a fridge containing meats, cheese and yogurts, along with a fresh fruit basket, bread, croissants, tea and coffee. The following days we had coffee next door, and there is a super Boulangerie just across the road to buy fresh butter croissants which were delicious.

As we were on motorbikes getting in and out of Sarlat wasn't a problem to us, but I guess in a car you may have a bit of a delay as it can get busy, saturday is market day, which is right outside the front of the hotel.

In a nutshell, we would definately use Les Remparts for a base, you certainly will not run out of different places to eat there, and I really don't think you will find anywhere in a better location for the money.
