“Perfect French Retreat”

We were looking for a quiet place to stay with family after a busy few months, and after visiting Sarlat briefly last Summer decided to return with our family for an easter break. The property more than met our expectations and has been tastefully decorated to be kept within the style of a french country home but with all modern appliances. Hamish the owner was a fantastic and friendly host who was always on hand if required to offer advise and recommendations of places to visit, family friendly activities to undertake within the local area and great places to eat. The medieval town of Sarlat is a great location and has all you need to enjoy a fantastic memorable stay and the added bonus is that you have the beautiful Dordogne Valley right on your doorstep. Thank you Hamish & Xanthe for sharing your fabulous home with us.

“Ideal Dordogne holiday location”

Delightful house with three en-suite bedroom that is ideally located for exploring the whole of the Dordogne. It is at the top of the main shopping street in Sarlat with easy walking to all the shops, restaurants and attractions in Sarlat.

Good location as all areas can be access by car without driving through the town centre, which can be busy on market days.

Truly a great place to stay.

“A wonderful house and terrific location.”
Reviewed 30 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We stayed for a week in late June and could not have been more pleased with the property.

The house is clean, comfortable and inviting, and well equipped with everything you need for a relaxing stay. The pool is a fantastic amenity, and it was very nice to come back to the house after a morning sightseeing for a swim and a little sunbathing.

The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms updated and spotless. The living room is cozy, although with the great weather we had we spent nearly all of our time by the pool. We never ate inside, instead having all our meals on the lovely porch.

The location is great. it's a very short walk in to town, and the street around the corner is lined with shops to provide you with whatever you need. Bistrot L'Octoroi is very close, and we had a great meal there one night.

The owners were very easy to work with, and very helpful. They know the area and were extremely responsive to our questions. Because we hadn't planned to rent a car, they recommended Taxi a la Carte for our transportation and guide needs, and Christoph and Sarissa were wonderful. We received our damage deposit back the next day, which was appreciated. It's really no problem to organize a rental from wherever you are ... it's all done over email and without a single problem.

Overall, we thought the house a great value for the quality of the experience we had, and look forward to returning some day.

“A very comfortable house - Location is amazing”
Reviewed 21 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We have stayed at this house twice in the last 2 years, each time for 3 week visits and we have found that Sarlat is a very central base from which to explore the region. The best thing about this house, apart from its comforts and amenities, is that it is an easy 5 minute walk into the centre of this most beautiful of French towns. We would walk in every day for a coffee in the town square, picking up supplies on the walk home from a fabulous bread shop, cheese shop, supermarket and food stores. There is off street parking for at least 3 cars and the garden is both private and sunny. The grounds are screened from the street, so its very quiet. The pool is maintained each week and is in a sunny position so the water temperature is lovely.
Each of the three bedrooms has its own bathroom (showers, no bath), so we invited friends and didn't have to share facilities. The upstairs Master Suite is large and bright, and the stairwell has a door so noise from below is minimised (important when friends children are in residence!!) The double bedroom on the ground floor is of a good size with a reasonable size ensuite and the third bedroom with 2 single beds is large enough for teenagers, has a shower room attached, but the toilet is off the adjacent kitchen.
From the protected, pool facing verandah, we were able to eat outdoors for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The BBQ is on this verandah. In cooler weather there is a wood fireplace making the living room comfy and there are wall mounted radiators in all the rooms.
The Owners, Xanthe and Hamish live locally and they respond quickly if there are issues. Bring your own soap and toiletries, but there are plenty of cleaning supplies, a good washing machine and dish washer. We will return again because there is still so much we have yet to see and do in the Dordogne and we love this house.

“Great house perfect location!”

We were so delighted with the house! It was just as the pictures show. We stayed downstairs and it was perfect. The bath had a wonderful shower with lots of power, something Rarely found. We did not cook but the kitchen was stocked and the fridge good. But the best part was the location! It was situated in a beautiful neighborshood ,but the street across the road led you to everything you would ever need. Pastry store, cheese store , fish store, meat store , grocery store, and three hair salons! Keep walking on Market day, and the streets are blocked off and you are in the Market! So much fun, even in the rain. The restaurants were also close with one of our favorites being 100 yards Away. We sat outside with our wine, and on the last night we were serenaded by the evening music group. This was two building down from the restaurant! Truly a memorable stay and one of our best. Highly recommend as the owners were also very easy to work with. This is your place to stay in Sarlat!

“Exceptional accommodation”

I cannot recommend this property highly enough. It is in an excellent location and has charming features and ambience. We stayed in January, a little on the cold side in France, but on our arrival we discovered the open fire had already been lit and the place was very warm. The booking process was made very easy, with prompt return of any accommodation queries. It also represents very good value - a 3bedroom house for around 125 euro per night was exceptionally good value. It was beautifully presented, and clean and tidy, as the photos on the website make clear. I imagine the place would be even better in summer, with use of the swimming pool (not much use for that in January!) The nearest bistro is about a 60 metre walk from the front gate, and provides an excellent meal. You can cook meals in the house's kitchen which is very modern with all appliances and kitchenware provided. The wifi was excellent. The security deposit was returned a day after I left and the access to the property on arrival was seamless. A two minute walk and you're in the centre of town. Sarlat is a beautiful town in a beautiful region and you could not ask for a better French travel experience than staying in this house. Visiting from Australia, a long way from France, I was pleasantly surprised at how our hosts made this travel experience so easy for us. I highly recommend it.

“Location, quality, comfort and style”

We did a lot of research on the internet trying to find the right place, and were sold on the photos and information provided by the owner. Xanthe was very helpful answering our questions and the booking process went very smoothly.
The house is very comfortable - there aren't that many properties in the Dordogne which are suitable to stay in during the cold(ish) winter months, or are even open. But this house was everything we were looking for. It has a large private garden at the front, giving the house lots of privacy, off-street parking, a wood-burner in the living room. The main bedroom was very spacious.
The house is in the centre of Sarlat, very easy to get to, even on market day.
We received our deposit back the day after we left the property. In fact all of our contact with the owner was great, we'll definitely stay in one of her properties again.
