“A lovely garden setting”
Reviewed 18 September 2013

Sarlat Cote Jardin is a little difficult to find but when you enter the gateway and are confronted by the lovely garden and setting of the individual rooms, this is easily forgotten. Usually you will be met by Max, the dog who is a real character followed by either Michelle or Patrick who will show you to your quarters. Breakfast is served in the main house and is quite substantial even though there are no cooked dishes. Unfortunately, although we had great plans, we were only able to sit out in the garden once to enjoy an evening drink due to the weather but it really is a lovely place to do so. My only negative would be that, like many other character themed lodgings, sometimes style is considered more important than practicality which can cause frustration when trying to find a place for your stuff. After all, you shouldn't have to store your suitcase, closed and on end during the day so that you have room to move about your bedroom. Sarlat is a very beautiful and historic town to visit with many other interesting excursions to make within easy driving distance.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with guaranteed WiFi reception.

We were fortunate to spend 2 wonderful nights at Sarlat Cote Jardin with the lovely Michele. Our room was at the end of the garden and was impeccably clean, spacious and decorated with style and great taste. Breakfast was ample, tasty and beautifully laid out at the table in the courtyard. The location of Cote Jardin is absolutely brilliant being only a 2 minute walk from the medieval part of Sarlat. Michele was also extremely helpful in suggesting where to eat and where to avoid the 'tourist prices'. We highly recommend Sarlat Cote Jardin and when we're next in Sarlat, will definitely book in with Michele again. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: The separate 'bungalow' at the end of the garden - fabulous!

The Michelin Guide is fairly dismissive of Sarlat, but we found it charming and full of medieval gems. It also had a ring of authenticity which some other medieval towns in the Dordogne definitely lack. The farmers market on Wednesday, when the narrow pedestrian streets of the old town are thronged with people, dogs, and stallholders is a chaotic delight.
We had wanted to stay close to the town itself, but were genuinely surprised when we found that our internet booking of the Cote Jardin had brought us to within a few yards of the town centre. The hotel is almost hidden away, but just off the town centre car park at the Place Pasteur. It has no car parking of its own, and careful timing is required to make use of the pay-to-stay car park without penalty charges. But this, and the fact that payment by VISA proved impossible, were the only downsides.
The hotel (more accurately a "Chambre d'Hote") nestles within a secluded garden, with the guest accommodation in outbuildings and a pine chalet, all with views over the charming garden and terrace. The accommodation and facilities were spotless, tasteful, and thoughtful. Even a box of cotton buds was provided in the bathroom. Tables in the garden courtyard provide a relaxed spot for reading, or a glass of wine, or simply watching the garden birds attracted to the foliage.
Michelle, our host, could not have been more helpful and considerate. As we arrived a little weary, she insisted on bringing coffee out to the garden to revive us, and we were greeted not as strangers, but as friends, and certainly felt treated as such throughout our stay. Breakfast, taken in the charming dining room of the main house, was among the best we have had in France, and very good value.
This hotel is a real hidden treasure.

Room Tip: The detached chalet at the end of the garden adds an extra measure of privacy, and has a pleasant an...

My sister and I received a warm welcome by Michelle after parking easily close-by. Well-furnished, comfortable accommodation looked out onto a peaceful little garden, located 2 minutes from mediaeval Sarlat The breakfast was the best we had during our entire visit to the Dordogne. Our stay was a real highlight..

The perfect B&B in an incredibly beautiful town. Really, there wasn't anything about the place we didn't love. Recently remodeled rooms are very tastefully designed & decorated, and pretty much ooze relaxation and comfort. The bed was really comfortable, and the bathroom as functional as it is stylish. The grounds are just as charming, with the rooms surrounding an extremely pleasant and relaxing courtyard.

The owners are wonderful--incredibly friendly, helpful, and pleasant, they went out of their way to make our experience great. We were sad to leave them and their companion, Max--a very sweet Brittany Spaniel who makes friends quickly.

Factor in the completely reasonable price, and this place is an easy choice. We would definitely stay here again!

Great little B&B just minutes away from the medieval centre. Host is so friendly and helpful. Beds totally comfy. WIFI. Shower fantastic. Hot towel rail. Blow dryer, plenty of lighting and space. Quiet and spotless room overlooks a beautiful little courtyard and can imagine if staying a few days, would be a nice respite from the whole outside.
Did not have breakfast so not able to comment.

In general the hotel is great. Good location to explore the Dordogne area, very hospitable owners (especially if you speak a little french), and reasonable prices. However, note that the price doesn't include breakfast, and the owner will assume you wish to have it and will charge you accordingly (even though it is only mentioned "in the fine print" that it is with extra charge). I personally don't like this way of doing business....
