We stayed here for three days and liked it's rather ramshackle charm. It's characterful - imagine a chain motel and this is precisely the opposite. The room is small but comfortable and some are in the more ancient parts of the building. We enjoyed the pool for cooling off. The owner is pretty much a one-man band but also omnipresent. He got us a table at a great restaurant on a Friday night at very short notice and saw it as a matter of honour to do so! The breakfasts were fresh and tasty and could be eaten indoors or on the terrace as preferred. The walk to the town takes about 10 minutes but is hilly - not for the infirm. Just far enough to escape the hullabaloo but easy to get down to the market (don't miss this by the way). I'd return and it's good value.

Room Tip: Try one of the older rooms for real rustic charm

No need to repeat what the website and the other reviews say yet one more time. It's a great place to relax and stretch out after crowded Sarlat town. Yes, sound carries between rooms, and the bathrooms though completely fine lack the finesse of some of the others we saw. But at the price, who cares? Good free wifi.
Two things to be aware of. It's not trivial to get to by car. The website has GPS coordinates and a google map, but one ways are not marked. If you're in Sarlat, leave NE by Rue Jean Jaures, right on Jean Moulin, left on Rue de la Plane (the last one in particular is poorly signposted). Leaving, you go the other way on Jean Moulin and then right on Chemin des Monges. Second, while we thoroughly enjoyed walking to dinner in Sarlat town - a 10 min walk - it is down a fairly steep hill and people with mobility issues will need to drive.
A very enjoyable stay.

We stayed at maison des peyrat for two nights while in the dordogne region. We booked here because of the excellent reviews and after seeing pictures of the tastefully designed rooms. We were pleasantly surprised as sometimes pictures can be deceptive. Being a two star accommodation we had fairly realistic expectations. The owners have done a fantastic job converting the existing cottage into a simplistic yet comfortable and pleasant rooms. The beds are super comfy! The grounds are beautifully kept, ample parking and a stones throw away from Sarlat town where you can walk to have dinners. The other attractions in the region are also very accessible. We had breakfast one morning which we enjoyed. Philippe is very friendly and helpful with lot of local knowledge to guide you. He was also very patient with us while we asked him thousands of questions!
All in all we definitely recommend this place! Basic comfy stylish rooms and friendly service, couldn't ask for more from a two star place!

Hotel de Charme La Maison des Peyrat is a somewhat unusual establishment. It started out as a hospital in 1343 and went through a number of uses until ending up as a hotel. The buildings are "interesting" and some of the rooms are very unusual but, for the most part, comfortable and clean. There are some nice spots around the grounds to sit and relax and take in the countryside It's a way into town and we mostly drove down and parked at the edge of the centre.

The best reasons to stay here are the hosts Martine and Jean Luc. We had so much fun with them over an evening aperitif and at breakfast.

It is so often the people you meet when travelling that enrich your experience. This was the case with our hosts Martine and Jean Luc whose conversation we greatly enjoyed and assistance with making the most of our 4 night stay we appreciated. Yes, our room was a cramped but the bed was large and comfortable and the bathroom just fine. The garden setting offered sunny and shady spots for relaxation - a great retreat from the busy streets of Sarlat. Breakfasts were ample - the pot of yoghurt especially delicious. For dinner we enjoyed both Martine's restaurant recommendation of Le Petit Manoir as well as the set menu meal prepared by Jean Luc. And afterwards a glass of "prune"!
