“Mysterious”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

This is a round tower hidden behind the Cathedral in Sarlat. You can only view it from the outside and the original use is apparently shrouded in mystery. Facing the tower, look to your left for the oldest house in Sarlat.

“Part of the skyline of Sarlat”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

I really liked being up at Lanterne de Morts. Its cone shape is easily identifiable on the skyline. It is an unusual shape for its era and so there is some doubt as to whether it was built as a lantern for the dead, or if it actually has connections to the Moors. It is worth checking its history. But in any case, it is a great view from here even though the steps leading up to the lantern are a killer - but being in France we should,d be used to this.

“Interesting”

It was interesting and worth a visit if you are in the area anyway. On its own, not enough for a single stop.

“Great views, not much else”
Reviewed 15 October 2012

If you visit the Saint-Sacredos Catherale you will find the Lantern in a garden behind. It's just a round, empty, small building with an interesting roof built in the 12th Century.

The views over Sarlat from this locaion are picturesque and good for photos.
