“Le jardin - View of the The English Garden in France”
Reviewed 11 June 2012

From our attic room window we enjoyed a lovely view of the garden below.
Thank you Wendy and David for making our stay in Sarlat very memorable. Delicious fruits, cheeses, pastries and bread enjoyed with real hot coffee was the best way to start the day.
Whether out enjoying the sights of Sarlat that have been recommended or just enjoying time spent in the guests lounge having a drink and using the free WIFI, Le Jardin provided a relaxing haven away from home. Just a few minutes walk from the centre of the town made this a perfect place to explore the Dordogne from - we look forward to retuning.

We have just returned from a wonderful week in the Dordogne and wholeheartedly recommend Sarlat and Le Jardin.

Initially, we looked at lots of TA reviews for B+Bs all over the region, but settled on Sarlat so that we could stroll to a choice of restaurants in the evening. This was a real plus ... a definite advantage over some of the more remote spots/very quiet villages

As for Le Jardin: you couldn't find better hosts than David and Wendy who are so commited to helping guests get the best out of their holiday. The location, house, rooms, garden, breakfasts are all great.... as other reviewers have frequently commented. The most striking thing though is the great atmosphere created by David and Wendy who really go out of their way to serve their guests, yet make them feel so relaxed and 'at home' at the same time....it's quite something! We really appreciated the honesty bar and the free bottles of water, the advice re places to go and how to get there, restaurant recommendations and also being able to bring food back to eat on the terrace rather than eat out every night. The impression we got is that they are really good at detecting what different guests want....reading that well, and then responding in a way that suits those guests. Quite a skill!
We enjoyed ample, delicious and varied breakfasts every morning: everything you could want plus a different cooked option each morning. I particularly liked the smoked salmon and spinach on hash brown. Very striking, though, was the breakfast we had on the morning of our departure: because of the flight time we had this at 7am (an hour and a half before breakfast normally starts) and had said just some cereal would be welcome. David and Wendy were both there serving us the full works, seeing us off with the gorgeous Oscar and reinforcing the impression that we had chosen the perfect place for our week away!

What a Fantastic stay six Australian Ladies had with Wendy and David, we did not want to leave.
Wendy and David were perfect hosts , we left feeling like part of the family.

Rooms were great each one with it's own special character, they were named after villages around the region, I loved the "montfort" not the largest of the rooms ,but felt like you could have been in a Paris apartment with a sky light. Perfect retreat for any one. I did not stay in this room but was envious of the ladies who did.

Wendy and David keep up the great work, we are all hoping one day we will return to your company and Beautiful Sarlat.

Thank you so much Susan Balkwell.

We stayed at Le Jardin at the end of April 2012, and it turned out to be the perfect choice of accommodation in Sarlat on all counts. First off, it's in an excellent location - about a three-minute walk from Sarlat's medieval town centre. It's also run by a down-to-earth, friendly English couple called Wendy and David, who both go out of their way to make their guests feel at home and inform them of the countless places to visit nearby. Our bedroom (the 'Castelnaud' room) was spacious and airy, and overlooked the lovely garden, which guests are welcome to use during their stay. Another nice touch is the (cost price, or near enough) honesty bar that's available in the guest lounge where you can enjoy a glass (or a bottle!) of good wine for just a few euros. If you have breakfast there, it includes a really good variety that sets you up for your day's sightseeing - from cereals and pastries to fruit and yoghurt. Add to all of this the friendly resident family dog, Oscar, who welcomes everyone with a wag, and you have the perfect package. We hope to return to Sarlat one day and stay at Le Jardin again, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a convenient, comfortable, well-run guesthouse in Sarlat.

We have recently stayed for 6 nights in Le Jardin and thoroughly enjoyed our trip.

Wendy and David are warm and friendly hosts who ensured we had a fantastic break. Nothing for them is too much trouble. They went out of their way for us and all of the other guests there; and totally made us feel like guests in their home rather than "B&B customers".

Their home is lovely with a large beautiful peaceful garden (which we spent hours lying in the sun in) and a spacious terrace where all of the guests would sit and chat over a drink in the evening. Wendy and David would join in these conversations and showed a genuine interest in what we had all done during the day and gave recommendations for restaurants, places to see etc.

Wendy and David have a dog called Oscar who is extremely gentle and friendly; and we enjoyed sitting with him in the garden.

As other reveiwers have mentioned, there is an honesty bar with the cheapest drinks we have ever seen, and a lovely lounge area to use if it were too cold to sit on the terrace.

The rooms are charming and have a very French feel. They are clean and the beds are made every day.

Le Jardin is located in easy walking distance to Sarlat town centre.

The area around Sarlat is stunning and we would stronly recommend a canoe trip on the Dordogne whilst you are there.

Overall a fantastic place to stay and if we go back to the Dordogne area we will stay there again without question.

My husband and I stayed here beginning May 6, 2012 for 5 days. Wendy and Dave (and Oscar the chocolate lab) made us feel VERY welcome- especially as our first night we were celebrating our anniversary. We were in the Castlenaud room which was just lovely- bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was huge- with a very nice shower. Lovely art work on all the walls- some of the photographs were taken by Dave- we bought one! The garden was lovely and the bird song in through our open window every morning was delightful. There was a really nice breakfast in the morning which set us up for the day. Wendy and Dave are a very relaxed, warm couple who make you feel instantly comfortable. They go out of their way to make sure their guests are well looked after. They have loads of maps and brochures about Sarlat and the Dordogne which they share with their guests - this is most helpful. They also gave us a fantastic recommendation and made a reservation for us in a great restaurant in Sarlat. The location is brilliant- just an easy stroll into Sarlat, which is absolutely wonderful and a great central base to explore the Dordogne. We will definitely be back!!!

Room Tip: We loved the Castlenaud room because we love a good shower and needed to be on first floor.

Lovely hideaway within a few minutes walking to the center of town. Peaceful garden spot. Nice hosts. The breakfast is plentiful. The beds are comfortable. As an extra gracious host, Wendy offered to launder our clothes as we had endured almost two weeks of rain during our trip. We enjoyed a lovely afternoon lunch of cheddar, French goat cheese, olives by the fireplace outside on the patio. Very romantic.
