I've been to Sarlat many times, and have tried other hotels, but keep coming back to the Madeleine. There's no better location, especially for visiting the town on market day. The rooms are excellent, and the pool is perfectly lovely on a hot summer day. Very nice breakfast, we had dinner in the bar area and that was really good, too. Overall, this place can't be beat in its category. Only down side: parking can be a bit of a job, but I've never had to park more than a couple blocks away.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street give you a great view of the action, but on weekend nights you'll have t...

Clean, good service, good location, our room (executive) was spacious, nice bathroom. Quiet. Would go back. Did not have breakfast so don't know about that. Got there late so they gave us a good price and were kind. Quite modern decoration of rooms. Also - there is parking so it's very helpful, though it's a bit farther from the hotel itself and not right next to it.

Room Tip: Executive room is spacious and quiet.

We stayed here two nights just for the express purpose of doing a full day tour of the cave paintings. We arrived quite late, and had missed dinner, but were able to get a light snack and a couple of glasses of wine in the very lovely bar. The server was very sweet and attentive.
Our room was very nice, not opulent in any way, but it didn't matter for our purpose as we were really just there to sleep. There were nice touches like robes in the room, nice toiletry items, etc.
Breakfast doesn't happen until 7:30 am, so you're out of luck if you're an early riser. We only got coffee, but the spread of food was beautifully done.
My only complaints were minor. When we checked in, we were not told we would need to move our car from its parking place across the street. So the next morning when we were told, it created drama for us to get it moved and still make our tour as the traffic is very heavy in Sarlat.
I also felt the front desk people were quite curt.
Overall, I would stay here again and would recommend. Our bill for two nights, our light dinner the first night with two glasses of wine, coffee for two mornings, and parking for one night came to $340. (after conversion from our mastercard bill)

The hotel is in the heart of lovely Sarlat. We had booked a prestige room so we expected something a little above average. In fact the room was pretty average, not particularly large nor well equipped. The bathroom was small with no bath - just a shower. The storage was limited and there were no tea or coffee facilities. This would have been ok if there was room service but there was none. The Internet was provided by a poor wifi that had a very irritating signing in process. Breakfast was adequate if unexciting. The hotel shut up early in the evening and there was nowhere to get tea or coffee after breakfast. The pool area was pleasant but it would have been nice to have had some service there. The air conditioning was very noisy and ineffective. All in all, rather mediocre.

Room Tip: Go for an expensive room or it will be inadequate.

We were charmed by the friendly (and abundant) service, the well designed rooms, and the truly exceptional cleanliness. The hotel delivers first class breakfasts in its dining room, and has a cheerful and welcoming bar, with an excellent wine list. Because of the frigid weather we were not able to try the pool.

Room Tip: A room on the back might be preferable for those susceptible to traffic noise.

A pleasant 4 star ideally situated at the entrance to the old town. Receptionists were friendly and helpful, our room (executive double) was clean and comfortable with views onto the square. There is a pleasant bar which for some reason doesn't open until 4pm, even for coffee, but there are many bars and restaurants close to the hotel. Don't miss the Saturday market, it's fascinating!

Nice hotel for Sarlat and area. Probably one of the most comfortable. Don't expect a palatial hotel with 100s of rooms this is a smaller luxury hotel in a smaller town. The club suites are very nice for a family as the couch folds out into a bed. The pool and spa area appear decent (see photos). No issue with the staff, all were professional. No doorman to carry your luggage. The breakfast food is good but very little of it is actually baked on premises. The AC was not available yet (we could have used it since it was pretty hot the day we arrived). All in all probably the best hotel for the area and the price is pretty reasonable too.

Room Tip: Club rooms have a nice living room that turns into an extra bed for kids.
