“A home away from home”
Reviewed 1 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

What a wonderful 5 nights we have just spent at this amazing house. I cannot recommend it enough. The gite was beautiful and had everything we needed, including a welcoming bottle of wine and breakfast provided for the first morning. Travelling with my partner and 7 month old child, it was so great to have a rental to stay in that provided everything to make our stay that much more comfortable. The owners Valerie and Jean-Luc were fantastic. They were so warm and welcoming and had made every effort to accommodate our son, providing us with a change mat, high chair etc. They were incredibly helpful with directions, information, bookings…everything! Nothing was too much trouble for them.
Bordeaux itself is so beautiful and we visited the towns of St Emillion and Archachon which were great. The gite is conveniently placed a few minutes walk away from shops and it is very easy to get around from there.
We have stayed in a few places as a couple and now as a new family, and not many places will stay in our hearts as much as this one. Book it now. You will not regret it.

“Fabulous French Experience”
Reviewed 31 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

The 6 days we spent in this accommodation was fantastic. The owners - Valerie and Jean- Luc were brilliant - gave us helpful day trips hand written to show us new places, supplied us with maps and advice on where to park and catch the tram. The shops were close, the gite was extremely well supplied with all mod cons, no steps, new appliances and beautifully decorated. At the end of the day we enjoyed debriefing about our day and getting new ideas for the next day. 20 mins to Bordeaux, 40 mins to the coast and 15 mins to vineyards. An unforgettable holiday that we would gladly repeat all the way from Australia.

“Perfect in all respects”
Reviewed 8 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Recently refurbished to a very high standard. The photos don't really do justice to how comfortable and harmonious this gite is. A very warm welcome from Jean-Luc and Valerie, lots of nice little touches such as tasty breakfast goods on arrival. Valerie clearly has lots of local knowledge and gave us some really good tips on places to visit and restaurants. Definitely worth staying and we'd rebook if down in Bordeaux again!!

Thanks Nick for such a rewarding review .
We are so glad our guests are so appreciative of the time and effort we spent on the gite . We carried out a great part of the work ourselves from fitting the bathroom, to painting , making curtains and even some of the furniture !
The place was spotlessly clean after you left and your kids were just lovely .
We'll see you again with great pleasure .

“Great place with amazing hosts”
Reviewed 22 October 2014 for a stay in October 2014

A friend and I wanted an authentic weekend in Bordeaux and decided to rent a gite. The place was lovely, even nicer than advertised. But what made the experience really incredible was Jean-Luc & Valerie. Not only did they help us book several wine trips and meals, they even set up a private tasting with a winemaker in the family. They prepared an authentic French meal with everything homemade. Truly an amazing experience, would recommend to anyone who wants a local experience!

Thank you for all the positive feedback on your stay with us . It was great to have guests who were so easygoing and so knowledgeable about wine . We hope however that our kids were not "too authentic " at the dinner table !!
If you come again , we'll definitely arrange a tour in Pomerol for you .

“This is an undiscovered gem and we will be back for longer next year!”
Reviewed 28 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We stayed at Le Clos de la Treille at 10 Avenue de Champagne for a long weekend in late June 2014. Le Clos de la Treille is located in Pessac which is a mature residential neighbourhood outside central Bordeaux. We were welcomed by Valerie & Jean-Luc to their beautiful property which is set back on substantial grounds from the Avenue de Champagne. Both Valerie & Jean-Luc speak excellent English and made us (family of 4 including 2 young children) feel very welcome.
Guests stay in an independent single storey Gite (holiday home) adjacent to Valerie & Jean-Luc’s house. There is a shared driveway but the Gite has a separate entrance and parking area. The Gite contains a large living room / kitchen area, 2 bedrooms (1 double bed & 1 bunk bed) and spacious bathroom facilities. The Gite is tastefully decorated and well equipped (TV, fridge freezer, microwave etc) with a large shared garden area.
Valerie advised us where to shop locally and where to visit on our trip to the Bordeaux area. We got great value & tasty local wine & food (including plenty to bring home)!. Central Bordeaux is a c.20 minute drive or c.40 minute tram ride from the Gite in Pessac. Bordeaux has a beautiful city centre full of neo-classical buildings with well preserved squares and plenty of restaurants and cafes – the atmosphere in the evening is great! Valerie suggested we take the children (aged 6 & 3) to the water mirror (miroir d’eau) along the river front in central Bordeaux. The water mirror consists of a large flat surface which has plumes of water vapour followed by water gurgling up to create a large shallow lake. The kids loved playing in it, especially on a hot sunny day (just remember to bring a towel and change of clothes)!
We wanted to see some vineyards when we were in Bordeaux and Valerie recommended that we visit St. Emillion where some of her relatives make wine. St. Emillion is a picturesque medieval hill town surrounded by vineyards as far as the eye can see and its less than an hours drive away from Le Clos de la Treille. We had a lovely lunch, bought plenty of wine and enjoyed spending the day in the surrounding countryside.
There is plenty to do for visitors in and around Bordeaux. For anybody considering a trip, I would highly recommend staying at Le Clos de la Treille as it is comfortable with plenty of character (a pleasant change from the standard hotel chains), Valerie & Jean Luc are great hosts who speak good English and make this a home away from home. This really is an undiscovered gem of a place and we will be back for longer next year!

We don't know whether our property is a true " gem" , but what is certain is that Bryan and his family were wonderful Irish ambassadors ! We had some very interesting conversations and they even insisted on doing some of the cleaning before going .
We'll be delighted to see them again and will make sure we are well-stocked with the local sausages they liked so much ( and of course other good tips on wine )!
