“heavenly retreat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2012

Whilst visiting the Benodet area we were fortunate to stay at this heavenly retreat. For those wishing for beautiful peaceful surroundings, then look no further. The proprietor Sylvie is the ultimate host, nothing is too much trouble (she even understood my atrocious attempts at French and understood my English sense of humour – my wife has likened me to Mr Bean on his holidays!!). The rooms are tastefully prepared and decorated within a beautiful period building set within a serene rural backdrop. We had long leisurely breakfasts on the patio with this view to admire each day; the wonderful breakfasts are not to be missed with fine ingredients. We enjoy walking and the distance from the rooms to Benodet was sufficient to encourage a healthy appetite on arrival, however for those that this would not appeal too, bikes are provided free of charge for as long as you may require. We had fun using the bikes to explore the area once my wife had practiced a little as she had not ridden for over 35 years! We chose not to use our car the whole visit and had good healthy fun.
We would thoroughly recommend Domaine de Kereven for people who appreciate tranquillity and the simple pleasures in life because if we pass this way again, it will be a must to stay again.

Room Tip: they all looked very good

Lovely tranquil location, just outside Benodet and an ideal spot to discover SW and West Brittany. Warm and helpful care and attention to our needs by the constantly on duty Sylvie! However, given the reviews we read , the interpretation of others' opinions became one of subjectivity with this establishment. Yes, this is a quiet out of town pastoral location. Now comes the subjectivity. We were expecting a typical B&B 'compact' atmosphere, but what we found was more of a billet/barracks environment. OK for those who prefer insularity. Very smart impression, but sterile (to us). The open spaced grounds contained white rendered cottages for those who wanted to be away from the 'billet'. Eleven bedrooms in the main house, and one compact 'common' room and breakfast room gives that 'billet'impression. No tea/coffee making kit in rooms, but ever present Sylvie will provide one if you ask. No bar facilities for a place so large. Self service Continental Breakfast (nicely presented yes) at e9.50 per person was, I felt expensive, but then prices in France are now far more expensive for served food, than in UK. Nearest restaurant choices for an evening meal are in smart Benodet a short drive away (3km too far to walk), so not indulging in a glass or two of wine as one does in France, impacted upon the enjoyment of our umpteeth visit to France. Yes, a subjective report, but more information is better than less when considering travelling so far to somewhere unfamiliar.

Room Tip: Couples should ask for rooms 1,4, 10, 11, (twin room 3 has bath with shower over could be better)

As a single, Australian traveller without a car, I desperately needed somewhere quiet to stay after a couple of disasters. The bus driver dropped me off at the driveway and the owner was so very welcoming, even offering to give me a lift into Benodet (3.5 km) and drop me off with my luggage the following day. It's an easy walk, by the way, although it's a good idea to dine in Benodet if you don't have a car. The owner really works hard to give her personal attention to every guest. The breakfast is probably one of the best I've had in France, with "bio" breads and even a device that allows you to boil your eggs for the ideal length of time. Each room is different; mine had fairy lights around the bedhead and was decorated in the same green as the limetree outside. Beautiful gardens.

Hotel with spacious grounds that inspire peace and relaxation. Despite its "remote feel", it is a very short drive to Benodet and Sainte Marine. Solid price/quality relatioinship with very nice innkeepers (Christian and Silvie). We highly recommend it.
