“Don't go to this campsite in september”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 September 2011

Got a bit of a deal to travel to this campsite in September rathar than the peek season of August. However when we got there, we discovered why we got such a discount for traveling in September. Basically not to put to fine a point on it the place was shut, finished up for the season. I would suggest that it would be a lovely campsite if we were there in mid july. However we paid money to be accomodated there in september. The only thing that was opened for the children was the pool and the playground. There was no resturant to speak of except a greasy chipper, the shop open for a few hours each day and even with that it was like going shopping in Moscow 20 years ago. The Shelves were bare. One final point that stuck in my craw was the receptionist was nothing short of rude and arrogant, and had a smart reply for anything you asked her. Maybe she too was closing down for the summer!!!

Room Tip: Don't stay with kelair. The caravan was something from father ted, bed had seen better days

We had the pleasure of 9 nights at la point st gilles, August 2011. The weather at first was dull, wet and cold however as the holiday progressed it became a lot warmer and sunnier. I do feel that I probably would not have the same opinion if it had remained dull but it didnt and we were able to enjoy the stunning rugged bays of benodet with beautiful blue skies and sunshine. The camp is very pleasant, well equipped, very clean and nice spacious pitches. We hired a keycamp villa grand 3 bed, 2 bath with deck which was adequate for what we needed. There were numerous places to eat or a reasonably stocked shop on site, a bit pricey but then the whole of France is!!! The beach was a 5 min walk away and to the left on a coastal path there was le letty which is certainly worth a visit, its like a little caribbean island!! A walk to the right takes you on another coastal road just gorgeous views dont forget your camera, eventually ending up at a Marina with a restaurant called l'alhambra which serves delicious tapas and other stuff. Loved Benodet could live there, nice relaxing place would definitely recommend and return, but dont forget your credit card!!!!

We have stayed at Point St Gilles twice with Key Camps. The main reason for choosing it was the location. A small beach with rock pools right outside the camp another good beach 3 minutes in the car. A path to walk or cycle along takes you into Benodet - a lovelly place with a magnificient beach, lots of shops and resturants plus a marina/harbour. The mobile homes are only what you would expect to get anywhere in France, however just room for a car between most homes.. The shop is small but has essentials. Food and the bar v expensive. The pool looks good and is fine for kids under supervision but is far to small for the number of visitors. As others have said beware of the bridges in the pool area, some are too steep and slippery plus the matting on some is a trip hazard. Evening entertainment so so.

We love this site so much that it is the 3rd time in 5 years we have stayed. The weather was very kind which always helps. The pool complex is amazing , our children (10,9 & 7) would stay all day and who can balme them ! " curly slides a lazy river you can swim in ect, it is simply the best we have experienced. We camped using Eurocamp independant and were happy with the pitch size. The main toilet block is great but they don't seem to be in a rush to renovate the older original block.
There is plenty to do in the area and I would reccomend an adventure park called "odet loisers" it is only 8 euros and there is loads of wacky things to do ( a zip wire over a lake) that health and safety wouldn't allow in the UK.
We ate at La Vague in Benodet and it was superb.

We stayed with Canvas holidays and were in a maxi tent. We travelled from Dover to Calais which left a drive of approximately 6.5 hours. There are closer ports, St Malo, Roscoff should you choose those options. Should you decide to travel from Calais, do make sure you approx 30 Euros to cover the tolls for each journey.
Arriving at Benodet, it is easy to find the site, there are directions aplenty to follow.
The camp site is lovely and check in was a breeze. Everyone there speaks good English, however, they do appreciate it when you do try to speak the local language.
The tent was spacious and well equipped, if not a little dated. Next door were Keycamp tents and they were much more up to date. We were positioned so that we were using the shower / toilet / washing facilities next to the pool. They were always clean and more up to date than the lower end of the site.
The pool is great and suits all age groups, but beware if you are travelling during peak time, there are not nearly enough sun beds for everyone and often you have to lay your towels down on a hard floor.
Should the weather be cloudy or rainy, which we had a couple of those days, then they do close up the indoor pool so that you can still use the facilities.
There is a beach directly opposite which is lovely and the main beach of Benodet is approx 20 mins walk away. This is coastal and pretty, so therefore it didn't seem to be of any burden.
Beware, there are only 2 places that you can change travellers cheques. There is the post office of the Bank opposite, Credite De Agricole (I think it is called) and this is a good 45 min walk or 5 min drive, which ever you should choose.
The site itself is VERY expensive. 4.80 Euros for a large beer, 2 Euros for a very small drink and the food is also quite limited and again expensive. We tried eating out a couple of times in Benodet itself and again, there are approx 4-5 restaurants there, the speciality meals, obviously being fish. All lovely but again Expensive!
A must to try is a day to Concarneu. This is 14 miles away and well worth a visit. Try the castle, entry is free and when you are inside you will be blown away. I won't spoil the surprise. I travelled with 2 11 year olds who loved being there. My husband and my 2 boys also went on a 4 hour sea fishing trip. This was with the Santa Maria vessel, from Concarneou and they loved it. The same company do go from Beg Meil also, but the days there are limited.
In a whole, the site was spotless, the accommodation was adequate and Benodet is beautiful but due to how expensive the entire place was, I don't think we would go again.

This is a very modern campsite with a great pool complex that will keep the kids amused for hours.

The location is a winner. It is opposite a small beach which is great for rok pooling and the resport of Bendoet with a long snady beach, shops and restaurants is a 20 minute walk away.

Benodet is a short drive from some gorgeous Breton towns, including Concarneau, Quimper and Fousenant - all with great shops, restsurants and markets.

The site itself has a outdoor pools suitable for toddlers and kids of all ages, two curly slides, a lazy river and an indoor section which can be cordoned of when the weather isn't great.

The campsite shop, restaurant and bar are expensive but there are a number of supermarkets - Super U, Netto and Carefour within about a 20 minute drive.

We stayed with Canvas and their reps were great. The site also rents its own mobiles and EuroCamp and Key Camp are also on site.

There is also an on-site spa facility.

The holiday makers were a mix of English, Irish, French and Dutch.

We stayed here in August for a week (2 adults + 12 yr old, 8yr old, 2 yr old). Supberb location just opposite a beach - however if you walk a further 10-15 min around the corner you come to Benodet beach which is lovely. The site itself was clean and plenty to do. The pool complex was perfect for the children with only one enterence/exit. The children loved the slides whilst the toddler loved the baby pool. The evening entertainment varied, a mixture that would suit most tastes but not every night.

We did not use the childrens clubs as they were more than happy in the pool or at the beach. Due to the small size of the site the children (and us adults) made friends easily.

Benodet centre is a 5 min drive - the supermarket is easily reached. Also worth going to the market on a monday - but go in the morning as it finishes early. A trip to Quimper is also worthwhile.

Overall the site is fantastic, the keycamp reps and site reps were great, the location is spectacular. We would definately recommend this site. A great holiday enjoyed by all.
