“Superb dinner”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

Dinner here was a fabulous experience. We had the tasting menu, and at 139 Euros it was actually good value, bearing in mind the outstanding ingredients, the surroundings and the obvious expertise that had been bestowed every dish on the menu. The wonderful variety of fish and seafood dishes all bore the hallmarks of Olivier Roellinger's subtle and expert use of spices. The cheeses were superb, and the desserts absolutely outstanding. Be sure to have enough room for these desserts, as one is invited to choose a selection from the trolley, and they are all of the highest quality. This is one of these experiences that is truly memorable - and for all the right reasons. We didn't stay here, so can't comment on the hotel itself.

This IS a relais chateaux in every single way! The 5c are all there. This was an
amazing and unforgettable experience. We would repeat it only to come back to
this hotel. The restaurant Coquillage is a gastronomic experience. This is one of those places where romanticism floats in the air, but at the same time mystery and passion. If there was no reason to return, I would just go back to have another bite at the restaurant and maybe stay the night to be pampered. Oh, maybe I should go back to meet Mr. Olivier....that is a good idea!

This was our second visit to Chateaux Richeux. We had visited in the fall before and this time in the spring. Definitely visit in the spring. The grounds are wonderfully tended and the flowers are profuse in the spring.

Our room overlooked the bay and Cancale in the distance, was spacious, very nicely furnished with a great bed and bathroom. If you have a choice, stay in a room that overlooks the bay. The tides in this part of the world are something to see since the difference between low and high tides are extreme. At low tide, one can see at least four kilometers of "beach". At high tide, the water comes to the base of a cliff on which the chateaux sits.

Service is superb and friendly and English is not a problem. One of the main reasons to visit is the dining room which overlooks the sea and makes an excellent location for a superb meal. The dining room staff are knowledgeable and the wine steward excellent. The meal is expertly prepared and wonderfully presented. Because of all the opportunities one has in France to eat extremely well, we rarely eat two nights in the same restaurant. For Chateaux Richeux, we make an exception. Dinner and the seafood here are not to be missed! Be sure to make reservations as this is an extremely popular restaurant with both travelers and locals.

We will be back!

Room Tip: Get Gingembre for a spectacular room and an even better 180 degree view of the Bay of St. Michel

After visiting Mont St. Michel and St, Malo, we stopped by this hotel for a night. From the moment we drove into the garden, I knew it was something special, in spite of the rain. The building was lovely, the garden well-arranged and we parked beside the smokehouse, where the local fish was prepared for the dining room.

The marvelous chef, Roellinger, is well-known, though his establishment perhaps less. The late 19th c. building has been meticulously restored and provided the prettiest room possible overlooking the Bay of Mont St. Michel for our companion who was 90. Our room, equally lovely in terms of decoration, did not look out on the sea but the gardens. And in the morning, the view provided us with a magnificent rainbow! In the room, someone had thought of each need--we had lovely soaps and oils, a bottle of digestif, cookies, dried fruits, and even a TV that rose from the furniture (but did not have to be seen).

The restaurant, where we had reserved in January, was a bit more difficult. When we were seated at 7:45 pm, the restaurant was almost empty, but we had a table with a view on the radiator and the wall. Fortunately our friend, who is 90, had the good sense to ask, "Why are we here, and not next to the window with something to see?' The maitre d' said that all the tables were reserved, but somehow he found a place for us, in the center but with a view. When I asked why the tables were thus arranged, he said--'It is according to the date you reserved." Since we had reserved in January and it was May, I was not completely convinced…. But, our table was delightful, the dinner was delicious with oysters and riz de veau, The dessert table was the best part--,magnificent presentation and choice. I advise the tart with chocolate and caramel with salted butter and the profiteroles. The rhubarb sorbet was also terrific.

The breakfast was wonderful, with homemade breads, and local yogurt.

My only reservation was about the seating in the dining room. Otherwise, it wa a memorable stay in a glorious setting with a memorable dinner. Extra added attraction--a beautiful black cat named Bigoudi, who gave a special atmosphere for us who love and missed our cats.

A memorable hotel and I'd return in a minute--with proper instructions to the restaurant.

Room Tip: Advise the restaurant you want a table near the windows with a view. For the rooms, ask for a view...

We have stayed at Chateau Richeux frequently over the years. It is an outstanding property with very high standards of comfort and service. On our last visit, the menu in the restaurant had changed and left my husband with no choice of a starter as he does not eat seafood or foie gras. We were most pleasantly surprised on placing our order that the Maitre d' had spotted our booking and alerted the Chef of my husband's potential problem. They very kindly provided him with a dish from the previous menu which they knew he could eat and really liked. I think this really was above and beyond the call of service.

This hotel has panoramic views over semi tropical gardens, to the bay to Mont St. Michel. Our room on the first floor was elegant and spacious with a three dimensional bay window over the sea. The staff welcoming and helpful and dinner excellent. This was born out by the restaurant being busy on a Thursday night, The breakfast was extensive and oysters and muscadet were offered but not taken! The bread, baked in the four a pain in the hotel grounds, was delicious. The theme of the hotel was based on spices and delicate spices and fruits were in the rooms and flavoured the food. It was a total treat.
