So, after two lovely weeks in La Croix Valmer (South of France), my partner and I always lessen the blow of returning to London from holiday (and driving to Calais Eurotunnel!), by staying overnight in hotel Lameloise in Chagny (near Beaune). Whilst the overnight rest is needed, the primary reason to stop here is simply to eat at the hotel's restaurant, which is exceptional - You have a choice of menus to suit a variety of budgets. My partner and I always opt for the menu degustation, as you get to taste and experience a wide variety of food. Starting in the bar with your choice of tipple, your are presented with a selection of 'posh nibbles'(!) that sets the tone for the remainder of your evening. The delightlful bi/multilingual staff explain each dish after presenting you with your menu, the sommelier is superb at recommending wines to accompany your courses, then you are invited to your table. Every dish, palette cleanser, cheese course, dessert thereafter simply exude passion and dedication from the chefs in the kitchen to the their culinary art - I could go on and on, but my review is as always subjective....You simply have to experience this restaurant on your terms and make up your own mind. Having said that, we return every other year - it has never failed to produce food of such a consistently high standard.
Off topic - if you get an opportunity, do read the hotel's history in your hotel room's literature - simply charming.
