“An unfortunate experience”
Reviewed 17 October 2012

We'd been to Da Nunzio a couple on months earlier and enjoyed lunch on the terrace. So we took our son and his family for a Sunday lunch, but unfortunately it was dreadful. We were the second group to enter, and while we ate our starters a further 5-6 groups appeared and the restaurant was about half full. We then waited for an hour for our mains, which only appeared when we called a girl who was serving to ask where they were. After that the young lad who was also serving was reaching over people who still ate to take plates from others who had finished, spilled the bread out of the bread basket onto our son's lap - in fact he was the most inept waiter we have encountered in a long time, and certainly not ever from an establishment with mention in both Michelin and Gault.

The food was excellent, as before, but the whole experience was spoiled by this. We have no idea what went wrong in the kitchen - the group on the table next to us certainly did not have an interminable wait for their mains - but untrained waiting staff in unforgivable.

Dear guest,
first, you have to excuse my bad english.....
So if you were the second group and then 5 or 6 other groups appeared, the restaurant was full, not half full, we have only about 20 places. It means that it will be a little bit long, as we don't prepare nothing before, for having a very fresh cooking
Then if you have to wait for some courses, its because some are more longer to prepare than others.... there were nothing wrong in the kitchen !
So, you waited for an hour, but in this hour you had an aperitif, a couple of "mise en bouche" and a starter....
And, no, the lad had not spilled the bread out of the bread basket, you're not honest, but you were angry when we speed up to make you satisfied.
I am very sorry for you, but your comment is not right, it's not what it happend !
Hope not to see you...

“Lucky find in Chalon-sur-Saone”
Reviewed 30 July 2012 via mobile

Rue du Strasbourg has around 20 restaurants and on a warm Sunday evening around a dozen were open. We would have picked a more tradition French fare but most restaurants were offering something else.

So we picked this place based on... Decor (smart window front), Number of diners eating (around 12 - all French) and a great looking (Italian) menu.

Skipped starters, but still revived two tasty amuse-bouche hors d'œuvres - and very tasty they were too.

Main courses chosen were; Veal two ways (rose steak and liver) and; Beef carpaccio with rocket with some homemade potato wedges.

Skipped desert, ordered coffee and this was brought with a couple of homemade petit fours.

Verdict? Excellent would have been top marks if the wedged were cooked a little longer.

Bonus? With wine and two coffees it was under 60 Euros!!!

“Great lunchtime value”
Reviewed 23 June 2012

We were taken there on a business lunch and had the 20 Euro set menu. Superb. The buffet of starters was a real treat and I could have just gone back there for the whole of the meal (the caramelised onions in Balsamic vinegar were lovely)! Having said that I was glad that I didn't. The portion of Penne in a cream sauce with parma ham as a main course looked a little on the miserly side but it's richness and flavour did the dish justice. Panna cotta for dessert! It is difficult to ask for anything better! Go there!
