We had asked for a room with a double bed and two single beds (as clearly stated on my booking conformation) but when we arrived we were shown a small room with a double bed and a sofa bed with a pull out bed underneath.
The room was musty and needed to have a window opened it prior to occupation and it was also adjacent to the swing doors at the start of the corridor. I asked the staff at reception to give me a room which I had asked for they told me they had no rooms with single beds. All they could offer was a double room with a larger sofa bed which when opened left little room to move. It was on the first floor but did not seem as bad at the time as the other room. We were informed there was no elevator so all the luggage had to be carried up the 2 flights of stairs, they offered no help at all. After driving for seven hours we did not have the energy to look for another hotel so we took the room.
We were not offered any refund even though the room was a basic one as compared to the Superior room we had paid for.
The only highlight was the restaurant where we received a very pleasant meal. Thank you to the chef and serving staff.
On returning to the room we realised we had a what looked like a child's bath with a shower over it. Far too small for normal adult use.
We tried the air conditioning but we still had to open the window all night to get some air.
The next morning we went to pay for the evening meal we had and the lady at reception seemed only concerned and annoyed that we had not paid our local city tax which was 4.5 euro. As we had booked and paid on line I don't think this was our fault and we never questioned paying it anyway. I pointed out that we would have just left without realizing we had to pay the tax if we had not come to pay for the evening meal. I was greeted with a shrug of the shoulders and said they weren't worried she then proceeded to charge me for breakfasts we did not want or asked for which again seemed to anger her as she had to alter the bill when I pointed it out.
The hotel looked in a poor state of repair and looked like it needed refurbishing badly.
I think the charge of £121 for the room was unacceptable and would certainly look elsewhere next time. They know they have you virtually trapped and I expect they get enough worn out travellers they can not bother with to be worried about real customer service.
