“Look for somewhere else even if its just a stop over”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

We had asked for a room with a double bed and two single beds (as clearly stated on my booking conformation) but when we arrived we were shown a small room with a double bed and a sofa bed with a pull out bed underneath.
The room was musty and needed to have a window opened it prior to occupation and it was also adjacent to the swing doors at the start of the corridor. I asked the staff at reception to give me a room which I had asked for they told me they had no rooms with single beds. All they could offer was a double room with a larger sofa bed which when opened left little room to move. It was on the first floor but did not seem as bad at the time as the other room. We were informed there was no elevator so all the luggage had to be carried up the 2 flights of stairs, they offered no help at all. After driving for seven hours we did not have the energy to look for another hotel so we took the room.
We were not offered any refund even though the room was a basic one as compared to the Superior room we had paid for.
The only highlight was the restaurant where we received a very pleasant meal. Thank you to the chef and serving staff.
On returning to the room we realised we had a what looked like a child's bath with a shower over it. Far too small for normal adult use.
We tried the air conditioning but we still had to open the window all night to get some air.
The next morning we went to pay for the evening meal we had and the lady at reception seemed only concerned and annoyed that we had not paid our local city tax which was 4.5 euro. As we had booked and paid on line I don't think this was our fault and we never questioned paying it anyway. I pointed out that we would have just left without realizing we had to pay the tax if we had not come to pay for the evening meal. I was greeted with a shrug of the shoulders and said they weren't worried she then proceeded to charge me for breakfasts we did not want or asked for which again seemed to anger her as she had to alter the bill when I pointed it out.
The hotel looked in a poor state of repair and looked like it needed refurbishing badly.
I think the charge of £121 for the room was unacceptable and would certainly look elsewhere next time. They know they have you virtually trapped and I expect they get enough worn out travellers they can not bother with to be worried about real customer service.

Room Tip: Don't stay here take some time and look further afield.

Have stayed many times at Novotel Macon nord. The perfect over night stop for weary travellers and just off the motorway. The reception staff could not
be more helpful and resturant staff very well presented and attentive. absolutely no complaints.

We stayed here for one night enroute to Italy. The hotel is ideally located just off the motorway, but we heard no road noise at all from our room and the parking seemed very secure (our car happened to be just outside our window in any case). The onsite pool is a nice treat for the children after a day in the car and they also liked the outdoor play area and X box centre. We were initially a little disappointed with our room as it looked like a standard room (white plastic surfaces, quite cramped and very tired bedding) but we were assured it was a superior. As it turned out, there were two single pull-out beds rather than the usual double sofabed in the superior room, so the children (and us) had a far better night's sleep than usual. Overall, the room was like an older Travelodge/Premier Inn but as we paid less than £60 and had a good night's sleep, we were happy enough. We did eat in the restaurant, mainly out of laziness, but it is expensive at £80 for a simple supper for four. I can't fault the food quality though and the service in the restaurant, and throughout the hotel, is really excellent. For that reason, we'd definitely use it if we were heading south again, and I'd have no problems recommending it to anyone else. A word of warning though - we thought we'd breakfast in the local McDonalds but it was closed for breakfast. Next time, we'd go into Macon for dinner too to save money.

Good hotel less than a minute from the autoroute peage. It's in an industrial estate but the hotel has lovely grounds with small pool and children's play area. Restaurant has a terrace. We didn't eat in the hotel - the menu was rather limited to burgers and other 'international fare' but just ten mins drive away in the centre of Macon we had a fabulous meal at Le Saint Laurent on the banks of the river. Hotel staff were extremely helpful coming up with a suggestion of where to eat and also booking taxis, etc. The hotel also has secure parking, handy if you are travelling to or from the south and don't want to unpack the car. They also happily took our bikes and stored them in the baggage area for extra safety. Rooms were a little bland but perfectly clean and with all the normal bits and bobs.
