Visited here to eat with friends during our annual Touraine Primeur holiday.

The service and food are excellent, but you really are paying for the privilege - eating here would not be a weekly experience! Menus start at Euro 77, then 96 to 160, however it is presented with panache and is delicious!

A little gripe - I do get a little annoyed with 'over the top' pricing on wine from local producers where you know the actual cost, however, the ambience and food quality tended to mollify the soul!

We enjoyed it so much we will be back here during the 2013 Touraine Primeur festival.

20 years ago, while on a business trip in Europe, my wife and I stayed two nights in Domaine Des Hauts De Loire in Onzain, France. The combination of the beautiful chateau, the park like grounds, and the over the top friendly service left a lasting impression with us, and ultimately became our gold standard for what hotels should strive to be. We are happy to report that after spending three nights at Domaine during September 2012, nothing has changed and the friendly service level is as good as or better than what it was in our previous visit. This level of elegance does not come without a cost (and we were a little taken back by 22 Euro cost per person for a continental breakfast) but nonetheless for staying in the chateau country in the Loire valley, it doesn't get any better than this. Good Wifi was efficient and free.

Room Tip: We stayed in the complex nexy to the main building. We had our own private patio and the room was v...

While staying at the nearby and excellent Chateau du Portail, we had the good fortune of dining at Domaine des Hauts de Loire. The welcome, decor and table setting were all that one could expect from a Relais & Chateaux property. More importantly the food was outstanding and the wine list featured a number of gems from the Loire. We highly recommend dining here.

Lovely hotel in park-like setting. The rooms were large, and within Norman-style buildings. Interior decoration pretty old-fashioned and a bit dull. But the bathrooms were up to date with separate shower, toilet and double sink.
The staff was very professional, warm and accomodating. When we asked in advance for a special meal on a special occasion, the answer was positive.
We also had the regular dinner at the restaurant, which was excellent and excellently served. The breakfast was continental, with the best house-baked croissonts and brioche.

Room Tip: The rooms all differ in layout and view. You might inspect several choose one to your liking.

The lush grounds are very special, we went for a walk in the woods every day that we were there.
The main building has a lounge with a wood burning fireplace and there is free high speed
wifi everywhere. I have stayed in both the main building and the other buildings in the
grounds and prefer the latter. The recommendations for restaurants in the area were very
good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only negative is the restaurant, which
while not bad is way overpriced. Stay here by all means but have your meals elsewhere.

This place delights the senses with beautiful scenery. I loved walking the grounds and looking around. We stayed at the main house, although the other building on the grounds looked beautiful also. Our room was large and colorful. The bathroom was large, gleaming and very modern - double sinks, large tub, large shower – but the toilet was in another tiny room. Strange quirk. And the bed - which was two twin beds together, had a mattress which I found uncomfortable.

We were tired from a long flight and drive, so we rested by the pool, which was very nice and quiet. The cabana/changing area was nice, but they could have fixed up the recreation building and especially the run-down greenhouse. It really could be beautiful. And it would have been nice to have sodas, etc. in a refrigerator based on an honor system instead of a large ugly vending machine. It was a bit of a walk back to the main building.

Dinner at the restaurant was quite an unforgettable experience. Beautiful food. You just wanted to stare at it. We had a great time trying to identify all the flavors.

The staff were extremely accommodating; although, I agree with a reviewer, they could have shown us around and explained things. But this is not a B&B. And when we asked, they were very helpful.

Room Tip: Our room was in the main building just above the entrance. Since the windows are open, the crunching...

The grounds are lovely and well manicured, but we just didn't get a warm and fuzzy feeling. We had stayed the previous 2 nights at another Chateaux which was outstanding, so we were a little disappointed in this one. The room was small, Room 102, but clean. No one explained the ins and outs of the place, such as a bar or breakfast, etc. We would have liked to have had a glass of wine prior to dinner and relax somewhere, but there is no bar area. There was a bar cart in a room off to one side of the entry way, but no instructions on how to go about getting a drink or if that room was to be used by us or someone else. We did have dinner there, which was very good and they had good wine pairings. Breakfast the next morning was very slow. It was more than 25 minutes before anyone came to our table to even offer coffee or water. Probably won't be back.
