Our 2 night break started well with a lovely warm welcome and introduction to the hotel and our room. We stayed in “Holt” which is a feature room. Some nice touches such as a fridge with fresh milk and water, a Nespresso machine and an adjustable reading lamp beside the bed. The bathroom was large with a big bath and shower. Very nice toiletries too. The down side of the room was it’s situation. From all windows you can see the roof of the Orangery and dining room and because it was warm we had the windows open, but as a result the cooking smells filled the room. There was a fan provided, but I find them too noisy.
Breakfast was very nice, but I have never had my cooked food brought to the table before I have finished my cereal! This happened to another guest the next morning. The restaurant seemed to lack management and some of the staff were quite abrupt when speaking to guests. A visit to the Crab House in Wells would show them how to run a successful restaurant!
There were a few other niggles with the restaurant but the food in the evening was delicious.
We did mention a few things to reception when we checked out and they were noted down and listened to sympathetically.More
