Lagrange City Apart'Hotel Paris Boulogne
Reviewed 10 July 2013

We chose this place because it was great value. The good: Its a newer building, with almost new furnishings and very spacious. The bad: internet sucks (kept losing the connection) and its located far from city center (if you have a very early flight out of the Airport, you need to take the taxi because the train will not get you there in time ) and I didnt feel safe walking at night, from the train station back to the hotel. (after 11PM the area is desolate and some streets lights were not lit at all)

I stay here quite regularly for business due to its convenient location. Comparing to other hotels in Paris and in this area it is clean with all rooms designated as no smoking although some guests do ignore this.

Beddings and beds are ok, showers ok but watch the time you take a shower. Water flow becomes low to non existent in the morning around 730 ish. I am usually earlier than this so not a problem but I have been caught out once. There are no hair dryers in the room and whilst reception do hold them they are often not available. If you need a hair dryer take one with you.

There are a few restaurants, supermarkets and shops local so you can either eat out or prepare something in the room - microwave and 2 rings. You can purchase a cleaning kit from reception for€5.

There is a local metro station if your plans are to visit the sites of Paris, I am told it is approx 40 min journey to the centre. This hotel is some distance from CDG and so if the plan is to visit Paris and you arrive at CDG I personally wouldn't choose this hotel.

Arriving after reception is closed is not advisable in my opinion as it is dark and I felt quite vulnerable on the one occasion I did this. I am usually secure in my room by the time reception closes. I have stayed here a few times and always it is quiet at night except on one occasion when a large group of people arrived back very late and very drunk, they made a lot of noise for the rest of the evening and did a lot of drinking and smoking(?). Whilst this has only happened once there is no one you can call in this situation as reception is closed.

There is no water or mini bar in the rooms so if you are arriving late remember to bring this with you.

I would never stay in this hotel for a personal trip but for a business trip it meets the requirements of clean, cheap and convenient.

Room Tip: Top floor has a balcony

Stayed in this place based on experiences of colleagues. Hotel is very close to our headquarters so that is the only reason for staying. On arrival had to wait for 15 minutes, reception was somewhat chaotic but friendly. Room had a decent bed and good shower, enough space and wifi.
Breakfast I was told was not so good, you pay 9 euro so had a nice French breakfast accross the hotel in a little bakery. After eleven reception is closed and you have to let yourself in with a key. Entering the corridor where your room is you have to wait some seconds before the lights turn on, very efficient but somewhat dark.

This hotel is described as an apartment hotel - ie it has a microwave, fridge and 2 rings. Other wise just like a typical hotel room. The bathroom is small with a squashed up shower. Useful location for local business meetings, but not a good location for a tourist wanting to visit the sites of Paris.
If the hotel wants to encourage repeat business visits, it should consider it's customers needs: If you advertise that the reception is open at 7am, then actually have someone who knows what they are doing on reception at 7am, not 7.15. Don't put out croissants and pastries onto plates at each breakfast table - it assumes everyone wants to eat them and is wasteful. Why not just provide a washup sponge and washing up liquid and some coffee and tea for those guests who arrive late and have no access to facilities.Even cheaper hotels provide tea and coffee in the rooms.
Sort out the online registration - it is only in French, is complex and confusing and it is impossible for the staff to understand how much to charge, we were asked to pay just the city tax and then had to return later in the day after full day business meetings to try to resolve exactly how much we owed.
Once booked online, I am now deluged with emails from Lagrange brand.
It would also be nice to have the empty soap dispensers in the shower checked and refilled.
For a long stay, it may be useful as the guest can do a full shop at the local supermarket, but for a couple of nights, the Ibis or Kyriad are better deals (and with free coffee)

Our experience was not as negative as previous reviewers'. Perhaps we happened to have gotten the only one-bedroom condo with comfortable mattresses and interacted with the only friendly and helpful front-desk receptionists and maintenance staff. Their willingness to help me locate the post office (4 min. walk!), hold doors as we struggled with a baby and suitcases and troubleshoot initial WiFi access were greatly appreciated; it didn't bother us that their English was 'bad' as other reviewers reported. (Their English was good enough for what we needed...)

The location was convenient to HSBC and many branches of BNP Paribas (for anyone wanting to withdraw cash from a bank machine network shared with Bank of America), Franprix, Monoprix, Picard and Naturalia supermarkets, pharmacies, post offices, the local farmers market on Saturdays, various eateries, parks/playgrounds/public swimming pool and ice skating rink, library, bakeries/patisseries (do try La Gerbe d'Or at 41 rue de Solfino) and metro (M9 line, Billancourt station) and bus lines. The main shopping drag is an easy walk north(east). Now that the construction is a bit more "finished", the street where Lagrange City is situated might be easier for taxi drivers to find, but don't count on their GPS/sat nav maps to be completely updated yet. It won't hurt to print out a GoogleMap of the area yourself to help your driver navigate. For anyone wanting to research the local scene, there's a blog dedicated to all things/stores Boulange. Google it.

The kitchenette consists of a small microwave, a two-burner halogen (?) stovetop, a small sink, small refrigerator with a small freezer compartment and counter area. Kitchenware is limited: electric water kettle, size 4 drip coffee maker, a skillet, a steel pot, collander, spatula, some silverware, plates, bowls, glasses. You are given two dish towels, but no tea/coffee, no coffee filters, no sugar/cream, no snacks, no sponge or dish soap. Opposite the kitchenette is the dining table, which comfortably seats 2, but 3 or 4 are also possible if you like cozy dining settings.

The bathroom has a nice showerhead and bathtub, sink with towels stored in the cabinet underneath, a relatively quiet toilet and space heater. It's not cramped like some hotel ensuite bathrooms are. There is a dispenser of shampoo/body soap on the wall of the shower head, but no soap in the sink area.

The living/dining area has a large closet with huge windows. Our windows face the L'Equip office building, but the floor-to-ceiling shades do a nice job giving us privacy and blocking out the light. The hotel staff had set up a baby crib (more like a pack-and-play), which we moved to the corner. Baby slept peacefully there every afternoon and night the whole 5 days we stayed there. The couch converts to a bed. The hotel staff originally set it as a bed (2 single mattresses pushed together), but we converted it to a single bed. (The first day we arrived, I slept there to keep the baby company for his afternoon nap.) The mattress and pillows were firm enough for me.

The bedroom is not as generously sized as the living/dining area, but adequate. Huge windows (again facing the office building directly across, but a little garden below), space enough for what looks like two single beds pushed together, a nightstand on each side and another low-lying table in one corner of the room. Some people might feel that the dimensions of the room are tight, but the room was fine for an average-sized couple.

Our stay spans Thursday-Tuesday. So far, the cleaning staff came by to collect garbage and replace towels on Friday and Monday morning (around 11am). Maybe they don't work on weekends? On Saturday and Sunday we disposed our own baby-related refuse (downstairs on level -1) since the garbage bins in the bathroom and kitchen were so tiny.

I have reserved a room for a family with young children on 22 June. Our first reservation with other hotel was cancelled at the last minute on 20 June. Then we called and asked if this hotel can accept us. They say YES and send me an email to confirm on 20th evening. On 21st morning, they tell us that there is no room available. The MANAGER personally says he DOES NOT acknowledge the email and CONTINUE TO SCREAM at me because I am not French. I politely ask him how he can confirm then cancel the last minute. He says NO ONE RESERVE HOTEL AT THE LAST MINUITE!!!! and he DOES NOT CARE.

His attitude is OUTRAGEOUS.

My friend tries to reach another guest 3 days before. The reception staff C just screamed at him because she had too many guests calling in and she could not take it anymore. She asked his nationality (I do not know why we need to give our nationality if we want to call someone who is guest) She only stopped shouting when he asked her politely what is the purpose of the shout.

I strongly advise NOT TO STAY in the hotel because of the IMPOLITENESS and STUPIDITY of the hotel manager.

PS some staff are quite friendly. I guess when you have a manager with this manner, the staff must be too stressed to work with him.

Stayed in the hotel for 4 nights in January 2011. Had problems initally finding the hotel as it was not one that the taxi drivers seem to know.

The hotel and the rooms were very clean. The room is more like an apartment. It has a desk and chair, min kitchen area, ensuite bathroom.

The bed was very uncomfortable, it seemed like it was a pullout couch bed. I did not sleep very well on it. There was also a lot of building works goind on around the hotel which was very noisy very early. The hotel is overlooked by a lot of commercial buildings too, which makes you fell like someone is always watching you, else you spend the whole time with the curtains closed.

The staff seemed friendly enough and the breakfast was ok.

All in all the hotel was just ok. 1 night would probably have be fine, but I personally would not book myself in there again.
