Residence Hotel Villa Escudier
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 12 July 2014

We stayed at the Villa Escudier for 5 nights in late May while attending the French Open Tennis Tournament (about a 5 block walk from the hotel--although the Paris Metro system will get you almost as close from anywhere in Paris). Hotel prices are significantly higher during the tournament.

This is a lovely, clean, modern, quaint, quiet, facility, and if you can afford to stay here during the tennis tournament, you probably won't care about the few quibbles below!

In a nutshell:

The facility is lovely and quiet. The neighborhood is delightful and practical although the restaurant selections within walking distance aren't great. The rooms are large and attractive. Less happily:

The in-room cooking facilities are dismal--and conspicuously designed to keep you from cooking your own breakfast rather than paying for the hotel-provided breakfast in the garden (or in your room in the likely event [in late May] of rain.) (Despite the dismal lack of pans, utensils, and condiments, I managed to prove daily that you can cook bacon and eggs with a sauce pan and a table-spoon--even on an induction burner that turns off every time you lift up the overheated sauce pan!!) But it wasn't pretty and I am probably one of the few fools who would even try. Bring you own stuff--no salt, no pepper, no frying pan, no paper towels, no napkins, nor anything else useful, anywhere.

The hotel website claims laundry facilities, but they aren't self-serve, and the cost of wash-dry-fold for a load of whites and a load of colored was pretty dear. (There is a self-serve laundry less than two blocks away, but if you can afford to stay at this facility during the French Open, I suspect you won't be doing that!)

Except for one news station, no English language TV is available.

Attempts by hotel staff to speak English left much to be desired. And we lost much time following instructions to a market 6 or 7 blocks away when a closer/better one was only 2 blocks away. (Yes, it's hard to say how much of that was OUR fault!)

But, at the end of the day, if we go back to the French Open next year, we will stay at Villa Escudier!

--Jeff

I stayed here with my son and his girlfriend for 3 nights while visiting Paris, to attend the French Open. The location is fantastic, close to Roland Garros, great local shops and market to buy wonderfully fresh produce, cheese, bakery. Staying here was so much nicer than staying in the touristy areas of Paris, which I have done previously. The accommodation was a duplex room, the bedroom in the loft and a sofa bed (very comfortable) downstairs. It was small but had everything we needed. Very clean and freshly painted. All the staff were so helpful and couldn't have been more pleasant.

Stayed 3 days with my wife. Everything was more than perfect. 5 minutes to walk to Roland Garros is also an unique detail. Decoration, clean rooms, peaceful garden, delicious breakfast and finally the stuff. 10 points over 10

We stayed four nights in May for a short break of two days tennis and one sightseeing. Villa Escudier was just right for us as both 700m from Roland Garros and near the Metro. It must be the closest hotel to the tennis and being able to walk rather than get the Metro from central Paris made things easy.

We had a one bedroom garden apartment which had been newly refurbished and was immaculately clean and comfortable. There was a separate living room, compact kitchenette, satellite TV (for watching more tennis!) and wi-fi....so we had everything we needed. Directly outside there was a small terrace which led onto a larger rose garden dotted with small tables, perfect to relax in after a busy day.

The hotel is close to shops and restaurants and about a 30 euro taxi ride from the Gare du Nord, all very convenient.

The owners/ staff were all very friendly and helpful, helping us to find restaurants and make travel arrangements.

We would certainly consider using this hotel again.

Room Tip: Garden apartment has its own terrace.

Stayed here for 2 nights with our 3 children. booked the family appartment, which turned out to be 2 connecting bedrooms. Extra bed was placed in the smallest bedroom, didnt make sense, the radiator in the bedroom was broken, we couldnt turn it off. This meant we had to sleep with the window open, it was too hot in the room. The caretaker of the hotel smokes cigarettes, and then clean your room. This means a smoke smell in the room, plus the old house smell thats in the whole house. I sent an email the day before check-in to ask if the parking was in a garage, as we wanted to put the ski-box on the roof of the car. Never got a reply, so we put the box on the car. The parking was indeed in the garage, so we had to take the box off. Would not stay here again.

The hotel is located in a very peaceful area of Paris and offers easy access to the city centre. The staff never fail to offer a warm welcome and the hotel accommodation excellent. I would strongly recommend this hotel for anybody choosing a city break or attending sports events at the Parc De Princes or Roland Garros.

We stayed at this hotel from July 31st to Aug. 5th and it was an excellent experience. There were 5 of us (3 adults and 2 kids). The hotel gave us 2 adjoining rooms. We were warmly welcomed by the hotel staff (by our names) as we checked-in, Jorge and his team went the extra length to make us feel comfortable. The hotel isn't located in central Paris but is about 1/2 mile from the nearest Metro station and a 30 Euros cab ride from Gard du Nord. It has a beautiful garden for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I would highly recommend this hotel.
