“Good hotel but not for everyone”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2009

We stayed there for 3 night during the "fête du travail" weekend. It's basically a 3 days weekend. We did pay much for the room and the reason is that La Défense is extremely quiet when no one is working. That's why we didn't pay much for the room and we went to another hotel afterwards. The hotel isn't extremely close to the metro station La Défense but it's not too far either. It takes a while to go from there to the center of Paris (about 45 minutes) but it's perfect who have business at the Défense.

The hotel was clean but as someone else mentioned, there was a weird smell in the hallway. When we first came, they had put some kind of lemon spray so it wasn't so bad. It didn't smell bad in the room so that was not a big deal. The room itself was great. We had a small kitchen with an oven and dishes. The decoration wasn't bad and the room was rather large. There was free Wi-Fi with a network called "swiss". The gave us a card with an access code and a password and we actually got to use at some other places with the same network.

The only problem with our stay is that we got kicked out of our room by the maid. The check-out time a this hotel was 11h and we wanted to leave precisely at that time but she insisted that our room was the only one left on the floor for her to clean up at 10h.

I was traveling alone; the single room was larger than other comparably-priced Parisian hotels. The room overlooked a pleasant courtyard. Free internet. 10 minute walk from the La Defense Metro/RER station. Nice neighborhood -- it's the non-La-Defense-office-tower part of the suburb of Courbevoie.

The front desk is shuttered from noon to 2:00 pm. Normally you'd be out and about and never know this, but I arrived a little before noon. Since my room was ready, I settled in; I had wanted to get the Internet access code to look up something before I went out, but they'd shuttered by then. No big deal, I just went on my way, and if I really needed the Internet, there's a McDonald's with free WiFi at the Metro station.

I was a first time traveller to Europe. It was a wonderful trip to paris along with my husband after a break of giving birth to a kid.
We had a great stay in the hotel. Though the hotel was in 3 rd Zone due to the superb connectivity in paris we never realised the distance. The hotel is located in a walkable distance from la defense and is very much near the bus stop.
The hotel is well equipped with modern kitchen with basic things needed for cooking and the grocery shops are very well near by.

After a hectic day on paris streets the hotel was like a heaven.

Hope you also have a great stay!!

I have given this an "Okay, but some problems" as we did manage to stay for two nights, rather than find it so bad that we pack our bags and leave.

Reception - Upon arrival, the receptionist did not ask for any ID. He merely asked for a surname and gave us a room key. Did not ask for any forms to be filled in, credit card etc.

Room - very small. Tiny. One double bed, desk, chair, small 14" TV. The bed has a cover which looked like it had been around in the 60's. The carpet was dirty, and the edges had clearly not been hoovered for months. The kitchen area comprised of a sink, microwave, and some cutlery. No tea/coffee making facilities or kettle.

Bathroom - Awfully small. The sink was falling off the base, the shower had large gaps in between the tray. Water went cold in a few minutes.

Pool - yes, there is a pool but I would advise against its use. Whilst in it, I found wads of hair at the bottom, as well as floating in the water. I have taken pictures of dark hair in the corners of the pool tiling (pic not very clear but I have more). Unsafe, and unsupervised. It is in the 2nd basement of the hotel.

Upon leaving, we bizarrely found that the reception closes between 12 and 2pm. On the itineary, it said from 1230pm to 2pm. The rude receptionist came to our room at 1145hrs and asked for the keys back. We asked for a luggage room but he walked away saying "sorry its closed". So we had to carry our bags for five hours in central Paris until we left for the airport!

Building works - literally 3 or 4 metres away from the hotel there were building works. Very noisy. I have pics of this too.

Location - on the Citea website they say it is 5 mins from Paris. WRONG! The nearest metro is a long walk, about 15 mins through subways which is very difficult to find. It then takes 10 mins on the red line into Paris.

If you are seriously strapped for cash, use the Citea Charras. If you can pay a bit more - please do. It is not worth saving pennies to go back to a poor room when you can (like I could have), paid another 50E or so for something more central and cleaner. With 30degrees outside, some air con would have been nice!

Pleasant stay with friendly staff. A little difficult to find from the Metro station at La Defense. The room was clean and well designed. The only complaint was the broken light in the corridor which made opening the door difficult because we couldn't see the keyhole in the darkness.

The room is basic but it is what you pay for. The room was clean and with the small kitchen we were able to have breakfast in our room which meant that we didn't have to eat between certain time slots in the morning. A little more than a five minute walk to the metro and as it's in the financial district it can be a lonely walk back on a weekend night. We were on the 13th floor so had a fantastic view of the Eiffel Tower at night and across the city centre. One word of warning, if you book a taxi through the hotel there seems to be a surcharge for booking. We paid over 10 Euros more when we'd ordered it than when we went to the taxi rank. Apparently they charge for ordering and carrying your luggage! All in all a very nice weekend break.

As most of the reviews will attest, the hotel isn't the best, but for the price you could do a lot worse. Yes, the rooms are small, the breakfast a little boring, and my hallway also smelled like pickles, but everything was clean, someone was at the desk all night long, and the metro is only a few blocks away and from there it is only a few minutes to the center of the city. If you are on a budget you could do a lot worse...then again, you might be able to do a little better.
