“An average hotel, a bit expensive”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

We stayed at the hotel for 3 days,
choosing it - due to closeness to Versailles/ Saint-Cyr and the availability of a parking.
The hotel is average:
- The breakfast is OK.
- The room was not very clean when we arrived.
- The room was quite.
- The staff is helpfull

We booked 2 rooms as we were escorting a patient to parly 2 hospital.we stayed for one week .The rooms were very small with very tight bathrooms.the hotel is very close to parly 2 hospital, shopping mall and the bus station to Versailles. The area is very quite and clean.Reception very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Stay away from the elevator as it could get noisy

nice hotel, close to the versailles castle and to the restaurants and shopping area. Parking is usefull but very expensive; i suggest to park your car outside if you can.
Rooms are very confortable also if the bathroom is not very large.
Breakfast is not bad.

We had the misfortune of ending up staying in this dreadful hotel for 4 nights because we went to Paris as part of a bus tour.

Firstly, some positives:

1) The bed, bedding and towels were clean.
2) There was a small fridge in our room that worked.
3) There was an adequate supply of tea/coffee and a kettle in the room.
4) There was adequate hot water.
5) There was a large modern TV that actually worked, although the remote was a bit temperamental.
6) The location was ok because we could walk to Versailles and the town. The Parly 2 shopping centre was across the road, and there are a number of restaurants quite close by.
7) There was free wifi.

Now alas the negatives:

1) Upon our arrival, some staff were outside the front door smoking, so we had to get through the haze of smoke. There were ALWAYS staff outside the front door smoking. Even though we had requested a non-smoking room and our floor said it was non-smoking, the entire place just stank of stale smoke.
2) Our room was on the 4th floor and was completely filthy. It was freezing cold, the air-con just didn’t seem to work at all, and the one tiny little heater on the wall was bashed in at the front and emitted a very small heat. The walls and ceiling, especially around the corners, were covered in a layer of dust and grime. The furniture was chipped and generally battered.
3) The bathroom attached to the room was in serious need of renovation. There were dangerous broken tiles on the floor where someone could have very easily cut their foot. The sink unit was chipped and stained with cigarette burns. There was no kind of air extractor fan. The bath was very small and somebody had attempted to paint it with enamel paint, presumably to hide damage, but this was flaking off. The shower head was fixed to the wall in such a position (angle and height) that to get any water onto one’s body it was necessary to stand with one’s back uncomfortably next to the wall, precariously balancing in the very steep sided tiny bath below. Having given up on the shower, I decided to try washing in the bath itself, but the bits of enamel paint kept flaking off in the water, so the entire wash facility was unhygienic, unsafe and quite unusable. We have stayed on municipal camp sites in France (for less than 15 euros per night) with facilities better than this truly disgusting washroom experience.
4) The electrics in the room were highly dubious. Upon our arrival, one of the three small lights didn’t work so we had to go to the reception and get a bulb. The electrical sockets seemed to work intermittently and eventually we realised that the one for the kettle only worked when the light switch by the entrance door was switched on!
5) On the first night we went to the bar but there was no bar person. After waiting a while, he was located outside having a smoke! The bar had not been stocked because they had “run out” of beer on tap and only had one kind of bottled beer. After serving us, bar person disappeared off to continue his smoke and when another customer arrived, he had to be collected again.
6) Our tour was supposed to include breakfast and whilst I do understand, having been abroad with other coach operators before, that coach tours are habitually catered for separately from other hotel guests, usually in a separate room, this hotel just didn’t seem to be bothered with us at all. We arrived in the designated breakfast area about half way through the allocated time, to find utter chaos and virtually no food. There had been an inadequate amount of places set for the size of the party, so those arriving early had eaten everything and the staff had neither cleared the dirty places nor replenished the food. We found one croissant and a small sausage. When I went to ask the staff to clear a place and indicated the “empty” breakfast provisions, they shrugged indignantly and returned with some juice. Also, and this is the point over which I am most disgusted, the breakfast room was set with cardboard cups and plastic cutlery. Why I ask? Were we attending a picnic? Were we considered to be primates, incapable of using crockery and cutlery? OR, and here I speculate is the real reason, this hotel was attempting to deal with the “bus people” on the cheap. Needless to say we didn’t bother with the hotel breakfast again and fended for ourselves using local cafes or supermarkets.

This was a truly horrible hotel experience. I have stayed in NO STAR “hostels” that were cleaner and managed better than this supposedly 4 star establishment. We have stayed in Mercure hotels in the UK and France on many previous occasions and have never had any problems, so we were extremely surprised and disappointed by this particular hotel. I am so angry at the way were “dismissed” and treated with such utter “contempt” by them that I now, in fact, vow to NEVER again stay in a Mercure hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid the 4th floor

Good easy business hotel, all the staff speak good English and it is what is required from a business hotel in which you want to put your head down for a night. The hotel does not have a evening meal but there is a hippopotamus steak house across the road. Breakfast is of a good standard. The hotel never seems busy and has a relaxed atompshere

1. Shopping centre right across the road
2. B bus accessible to Versailles
3. Fridge in room
4. There is a restaurant within walking distance
5. Nice lobby area
6. Free wifi
7. Nice staff

Cons
1. Shower is lower than me and I am not that tall
2. Room on 4th floor are cold
3. Rooms are basic
4. Bathroom is run down
5. No restaurant
6. Microwaved food
7. Lonely bar atmosphere
8. Not the safest feeling of hotel stays
8. Preferred to be out than in the hotel
9. Could do with new towels
10. Rooms smell of smoke

Overall it's very basic especially considering the price in comparison to other hotels. I believe there are nicer rooms on the 1st and 3rd floor but steer clear of the 4th floor
