“Gem of a Museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 May 2013

After a 20 minute ride exit the station and the St. Germain-en-Laye's Chateaux is right there .
Sprawling park great for picnics .and a view of the city.
The staff were very friendly and helpful , the museum went beyond our expectations .
If you have any interest in the early history of France this is a must see .

“Great exhibition.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2013

It is a bit outside of Paris city centre, but the metro takes you straight there – and the museum is right by the metro entrance in a beautiful château. The building is really stunning, and there is a huge park in connection to it, where you can have a picnic or a stroll. There is also a lovely little bookstore there.

There is a lack of English-speaking staff, and all the exhibition is in French. But I kind of like that it makes the object the only focus. The pieces range from prehistory, the Paleolithic to medieval times. Some really stunning carvings of animal figures, every day-goods from the iron age and many other lovely finds. If you are interested in archaeology, I really recommend it.

Saint-Germain-en-Laye is a lovely “village” (I don’t really know what to call it) with small shops, and great cafes. Great if you want to escape the more touristic parts of Paris.

Without a word of English...from the ticket seller to every fantastic exhibit. We cannot enjoy something we cannot understand. Open to tourists???

“Great for an archeology buff!”

We really enjoyed this museum - no crowds and lines like in Paris - and the exhibits were beautiful and well-done!
