Had lunch with a group of friends
Service is terrible.
Food is ok but definitely over priced.
There are many other better options in town

My French hosts and I visited on a Saturday evening in August without a booking. We had to wait only a few minutes before being guided to a table. We ordered from the 29-Euro menu and were rewarded with three excellent dishes. I began with 6 oysters, served on ice decorated with seaweed. There was a wine vinegar and chopped shallots dressing available, or a simple squeeze from a lemon. The oysters were very fresh and the liquor in the shell was delicious. I continued with a 'seignant' rump steak with sauce Bearnaise and French fries. It was a deep piece of steak cooked as I had ordered. The home-made sauce was excellent and one of my hosts was tempted to test it by borrowing a chip and dipping it into the plentiful sauce boat! He was very welcome to do so. I ended with choux filled with whipped cream and underlaid with a fine caramel sauce. The three choux were served on a long narrow dish. They looked excellent and tasted just as good. This was a memorable meal and very good value indeed. We drank a good 2008 Georges duBoeuf Brouilly and were very happy with all aspects of the meal.

right in front of the chateau where louis the 14th was born, brasserie du theatre is one of my favorite restaurants. of course you have to get out of paris but it's worth the drive (specially through bougival along the river, and if you combine with a visit of chateau malmaison, josephine's house) or the train trip (easy from etoile, 30mn on the rer, the restaurant is right near the station). the place has been renovated not long ago in a nice style, modern but still cosy. no tourists here, locals, families, mainly wealthy bourgeoisie who know they get good food in a nice place. service is polite and efficient, french...but warming up during the meal...perfect if you are a local and speak french. the food is traditional french brasserie, very good products, very well cooked. try the seafood, oysters are blissfully fresh! one of our favorite is he house foie gras, so tasty with its quince jam last time we had it. fish is excellent, tartare too, choucroute as well. vegies are very good. desserts too. wine is reasonable, petit chablis real crisp and nice. good value. recommended without hesitation. I bring friends from abroad and they all loved it! after eating a walk in the park in front of the chateau allows nice digestion and a breathtaking view of paris and la defense. book beforehand as the place is very popular. in the summer, lovely tables on the terrace

Lovely restaurant with a lovely view. We were in a large group and the service was good if a little slow sometimes. Lovely choice of food and vegetarian options in the starters only.
