“Classic Ibis – Just Fine”
Reviewed 15 October 2013

This hotel had an attentive front desk manger, who stopped his work to welcome and swiftly check me in an efficient way.

A quiet, spacious, freshly decorated, non smoking room with new bed/mattress and bedding was provided. The bathroom was clean, tidy and spacious too, although a bit spartan.…The room had a large picture window overlooking the street, but it still wasn’t at all noisy, as the hotel was well set back from the road behind large trees.

Once settled in, the same helpful front desk manager was able to take time to indicate restaurants close by and around town, on a clear hotel printed large scale map.

The free computer in the web corner worked efficiently too, for some basic travel research in the late evening.

Room Tip: Choose one on a higher floor away from the lift for best sleep quality...

the room we had was in need of renovation, the curtain was hanging off at one end and had more holes in than a cullender. the bath was well worn, the staff were friendly and the location is not the best.

After walking almost 20 miles, we were tired, but the receptionist made us feel very welcome, and gave us a nice, briht and airy room. After a refreshing shower and unpacking our rucksacks we went back to the lobby/bar for a well-deserved beer. As it was Sunday, very few restaurants were open, but again Sandy the receptionist directed us to le Coq Hardy, a stones' throw from the hotel. A very good experience, service was great, thank you.

By Ibis standards, and over time I have stayed in a fair share of them, this is one of their more middling properties. This said, it is perfectly fine for an overnight stay on route somewhere else.

It was clean, functional and only a short walk to the centre of town and its restaurants. Which was just as well, as I arrived on a Sunday when the hotel restaurant did not open for dinner.

The receptionist was friendly. She didn't speak English (well, it's not really on the main English tourist routes), not a big problem for me as I can get by in French, however if your French is shaky, you might want to bring along your phrase book.

As other reviewers have commented, therie is parking above ground (limited) and secure parking below. For traveller on a motorbike, the hotel is happy for you to park on the hard standing right by the entrance to the hotel - so pretty secure. There is not charge.

We stayed at Ales for 3 nights in May and the hotel was in a very good position, clean and all the staff were helpful. If in that area again we would stay at this hotel.
