This is exactly why we use Tripadvisor! Having read all of the reviews, we booked two nights at L'Hostalet and everything that has been said before is true. Lovely, comfortable room overlooking the square, simply and tastefully presented and spotlessly clean. Location right in the middle of Argeles village is excellent with easy free parking close by. Matteo was kind, helpful, friendly and eager to please - we followed his restaurant recommendations and had great meals for reasonable cost both nights. Cannot recommend highly enough!

Just returned from an excellent 5 night stay at the home of Matthew &Jonathan. Before booking I read comments on trip advisor. Very impressed with what I read, & they were all true. Our room was tastefully decorated, fabulous breakfasts & our hosts could not have been any more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble, (especially trying to find a dentist for me. Thank you so much Matthew for trying so hard).
I would (& have done already) recommend L,Hostalet to anyone. Staying in the village, for us, was far better than staying in the very busy beach area, much quieter & much less commercialised. It was a cycle ride away from the beach.
Thank you again Matthew & Jonathan for giving us such a warm welcome. The rest of our tour of the Pyrenees was fabulous.

Room Tip: Overlooking the village square, so that you can watch French life. Due to excellent double glazing...

Just returned from a holiday in Argeles with my young daughter. Excellent guesthouse. We had a room overlooking the pretty square. A good bed, and bathroom. Room really lovely, very comfortable and very clean. The proprietors were terrific. Couldn't do enough for us. They gave us a parasol for the beach and I travel adaptor as I had forgotten to pack my own. They recommended a restaurant nearby, which had a children's menus. Breakfast was delicious breads, cakes, fruit, home-made jams. We flew to Carcasonne and took the train to the town, didn't hire a car, which wasn't a problem, as transport to the beach. The hotel is great for couples or families. Highly recommend!!!!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking square have picture-postcard view.

This was an excellent find, we just stayed in Argeles sur Mer for the one evening and couldn't have wished for a more pleasant or central spot....breakfast was superb served in the square behind the hotel and had a true authentic feel.....our hosts obviously have worked to make the hotel both chique and welcoming......

Room Tip: Very central within the town.....parking approx 200-300 metres.

We originally planned to stay in Collioure, but reading the reviews of L’Hostalet on Trip Advisor, changed our plans and spent two nights here. It is a very nice small hotel, with only 6 rooms, all recently renovated - ours had an excellent new bathroom and good bed. Our only gripe with the room was that it wasn’t very well lit. The free wifi worked well.

The hotel is run by a charming host, Mathieu who was very helpful and serves a great breakfast in the square behind the hotel (if the weather is fine). The hotel is right in the centre of town, and our GPS had a bit of a problem with the one way streets, but once we found the hotel, Mathieu pointed us in the direction of free parking and advised us how to get in and out of the town.

Argeles itself doesn’t have much of interest to tourists, other than the beaches in summer. It has some good restaurants, but you need to check closing days and make advance reservations for the good ones - Bartavelle and Le Cayrou - unfortunately we missed out on eating at both of these places due to bad timing. We ate at La Gamate and The Flowers both of which were pretty good, but nothing spectacular. Next time we’d probably stay in Collioure which is a more charming town, with more choice of restaurants. But if we had to stay in Argeles, we’d definitely stay here again.

We wanted to spend a few days in the area and because of the fantastic reviews decided to stay at L'Hostelet. It was a bit difficult to find as it was market day and the roads were closed - however we did find it and it is really very good. Not the usual sort of place we stay in but we trusted trip adviser reviews and were not let down. Rooms are so clean and comfortable, also surprisingly quiet at night considering the hustle and bustle on the street outside in the day. Lovely ensuite, we did have a problem with the extractor fan but Mathieu sorted it very quickly. Breakfast is taken in the square to the rear of the hotel and is exquisite! Freshly made cakes still warm from the oven, really tasty bread and homemade jam - wow. The only downside was eating in the evening, because we stayed in June not many restaurants were open. There is a good one a few doors away but that was fully booked both nights - so book it as soon as you arrive!. As we preferred not to drive it we ended up one night sitting outside an establishment on the pavement eating steak hache and chips!! Nothing else was open. But L'Hostelet is great - give it a go - you will love it

Room Tip: All rooms have very quiet air conditioning - big bonus if its hot.

This is a wonderful little hotel, right in the center of Argelès, with easy access to car parking and the train station. The rooms are nicely decorated, and all fittings are thoughtfully and tastefully done, including a nice bathroom. Although the hotel is in an old town house, everything feels new, though in-keeping with the traditional building. Everything is lovely and clean, and the bathroom was spotless.

But the thing that really made this hotel stand out for us was the kindness of the owners. After contacting them in advance about the possibility of a gluten-free breakfast, we arrived to find out that they had gone out of their way to provide gluten-free bread, going as far as to commission specially baked gluten-free bread from a nearby bakery! My girlfriend has celiac disease so this type of care really make a big difference, and we were so grateful for this amazing treatment (they even wrapped up the left over bread for her to take home!) Breakfast itself was a lovely collection of home-made cakes and jams, with fresh fruit and juices that made a great start to the day.

The hosts also speak a variety of languages, so as an English/French speaker and a Spanish/English we had no problems speaking with them in a mixture of French, English, and Spanish!

I can't recommend this hotel highly enough and would not hesitate to book again.

-------

Quel surpris! On était tellement reconnaissant.

Merci beaucoup.
