“Nice hotel in good location.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 February 2014

We stayed here during a cycle trip along the lovely canal du midi. The hotel is nice and well situated, being in the hearth of town. The garage was secure for storing the bikes. The rooms were decent sized and recently redone. We were within walking distance of many fine restaurants and the couple running the place were very helpfull. Will recommend.

We checked in for one night before departing on a barge trip. The location is terrific and close to restaurants. Check-in was pleasant.

Our room was on the top (third) floor, in a newly-renovated section. The bed was very nice, with a comfortable and new mattress. The bathroom, though small, is modern and had a splendid rain head shower. (There was no bathtub, if that matters to you.). The window opened onto an interior courtyard. In the morning, we heard church bells chiming the hour.

Breakfast (11 Euros/person) was plentiful and had a nice variety of food (e.g., cereal, fresh fruit, pastries, poached eggs, cheeses, coffee, juices).

The quirky remark relates to the decor. The hotel is in the middle of a renovation. The old decor is truly odd, sort of like the Man of La Mancha on acid. The new paint scheme is gray and magenta - not wholly offensive, but a bit jarring.

We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 335 has a nice view of the cathedral in the distance.

We had a bad experience with the hotel our travel agent had booked and walked into town and saw this hotel which looked great and were welcomed by Chantal who immediately gave us a room. A newly renovated room on the 3rd floor and when we opened our shutters - what a view! We just couldn't get enough of the cathedral lit up at night - amazing! The breakfast was also very satisfactory and the location is perfect - on a tree lined boulevard with access to all the restaurants and shops in the area. A charming hotel with wonderful hosts - Chantal and Philippe! Highly recommend

Just returned from a three day break in Beziers, staying at the Hotel Imperator.
The location is really very good and the hotel is located on a tree lined avenue with plenty of choices of restaurants and bars. From the outside the facade is magnificent but on entering the hotel, it is soon clear that it is not as grand inside. Reception area is quite dark, spacious but very dated. Chantal on the reception desk is very pleasant and always has a smile for everyone.
We had a room on the second floor and the lift that you need to use to access your floor is very old and tiny. Once we reached our room, we were pleased to see that it was spacious and clean, and overlooked the courtyard which was very quiet. Beds were very comfortable and free Wi Fi was excellent.
However, on a negative side, the tiny toilet is based in the wardrobe and the bathroom is opposite to it. I know it is an old building and one can accept that modern bathrooms are not always easy to incorporate successfully, but as a visitor this was just too much of a backward step. TV did not have any channels to watch other than French ones, we have stayed in lots of other hotels and they always have a BBC world service. Decor is very dated and the French balcony doors are in a poor state and in desperate need of decoration.
We had a drink at the bar on our first night there and it was pretty expensive and deserted.
I feel this hotel could be so much better, Philippe is always cheerful and informative but it appears to be a huge task to bring this hotel to the standard that most people expect, it is not enough to have great history in the hotel, it also needs to have some style.
Beziers is quite a nice city, everyone friendly, but we would not return there. All shops were closed on Sundays and most on Mondays so as a weekend visit, it was disappointing.

Room Tip: We were in a room backing onto the courtyard and its very quiet.

We stayed 1 night just before undertaking a barge cruise up the canal du
Midi. The hotel location is excellent, right in the heart if the main square. There is a good supermarket across the road, which we used for our barge provisions.

The team manning reception where charming and efficient. They also advised and arranged transportation options to nearby Capestag (our barge embarkation port).

Our room was smallish, with very odd "moon inspired" carpet & a Manhattan skyline imaged desk. Good air on & TV. The usual older style fence shower over the bed routine. This is sort of tourist hotel where you get disposable plastic glasses to use.

We left our luggage in the lobby while we when shopping after check out. All well cared for and safe.

I'd use this place again, but only for a quick one nightwear. It's not the place to base yourself for several days while you explore the area.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the square might be more interesting than ones overlooking the inner courtyard.

We arrived quite early after being on a boat on the Canal du Midi and were allocated a room straight away. We had not expected this and were most appreciative. The room is clean and stocked with what you would hope for. We faced the courtyard and experienced no noise. The bed was comfortable with sufficient pillows.
The location is excellent with easy walking distance to the Cathedral through nice little streets.

Room Tip: Overlooking courtyard for maximum quietness.

Secure garage for €20. Good buffet breakfast served in lovely inner courtyard. Friendly staff. The decor in the reception is not to everyone's liking but clean and new. The room we stayed in had a lovely view of the old city roofs and cathedral. Plenty of sockets in the right place and excellent free wifi. No mini bar. Good air conditioning. Good bed.

Room Tip: Room no 331
