“Authentic”
Reviewed 20 September 2013

This restaurant could have stepped out of any time from 1880 to 1930. The walls are covered with old advertising images and comments/cartoons from passing celebrIty diners. There are two reasonably priced menus but we chose to go " hors piste" and enjoyed the à la carte selection. The wine list ranges from the reasonable to breathtaking. Dominique is very welcoming and efficient.

“Very, very french”
Reviewed 19 July 2013

This family-run restaurant has a great atmosphere. The rooms are plastered with lamps, pictures, signs and graffiti of all kinds. Even a full-size Al Jolson-like figure is halfway blocking the stairs.
The food is very, very french (to my knowledge). The foie grass is excellent, the soupe de melon cold and fresh, the roasted lamb deliciously red, the mashed potatoes surprisingly well-tasting and the icecream sweet and tasteful.
We even went back two days later and enjoyed another selection from the menu.
The only downside is time: even though the restaurant was almost empty we waited 10 minutes to get the menu and at least another 10 minutes went before we got our drinks. And between the entrees and the main course went another 20 minutes.
You can do better than that Francis!

“Excellent & charming”
Reviewed 12 December 2012

The menu is rich and varied but more important is the superb quality.
Essentially, local Perigord food.
Francis, the Boss and Chef, is friend of many 3-stars chefs which explains his talent and competence.
The place is frequently visited by famous artists who left their feelings directly on the walls.
Very charming and unusual restaurant. Prices are affordable (menues at 50 $ and even less).

“Quaint, traditional, and fun”
Reviewed 16 November 2012

Chez Francis is filled with interesting artifacts, and art work, and handwritten testimonials from a legion of local fans. The lunch we had was traditional and as it was at the end of the lunch period, service was a bit slower than we might have expected. We will visit this charming place again.... and try a more extensive tasting of their offerings.
