“Not just a coffee house.”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

Stylish and a feeling of Italian coffee house. Friendly, nothing is too much trouble, I would love this near me to spend a few hours in every day. Food delightful, cakes made in heaven, assorted menus something for everyone during a day. Not sure if open in evenings, but they were preparing discreetly for an 18th birthday party when we were there. Gorgeous food and coffee and most can be bought to take out. It is a creative café. One not to be missed.

“Good food but rushed service”
Reviewed 6 July 2014 via mobile

Called into Benedict's for late lunch, as it was a Sunday the menu was reduced but still adequate choices.
My friend and I decided to enjoy the afternoon with a Buck's Fizz, I then chose the Salmon with lemon mayonnaise and my friend had the Dippy Eggs, both were excellent quality.
We really should have stopped there but the cakes looked amazing so we continued with a pot of tea and asked if we could have two minutes to decide if we wanted cake.
Within 30 seconds the waitress came back and asked if we wanted cake, again could we please have 2 minutes.
My friend then stood to consider the cakes and yet again the waitress was asking What would you like?, feeling under pressure we both chose but happy with our choices began to enjoy them, that was until our consumption of the cakes was interrupted by the heavy odour of Pledge furniture polish, the staff had obviously decided the cafe was closing and began to clean the tables whilst we were still eating on the table next door.
The vapour was visible and certainly did nothing for the taste of the cakes we had just purchased.

Had we been advised the cafe was due to close we may have decided either to:
a) not purchase the cakes
b) purchase but take away to eat at home
Either way we were not given that choice but instead had to rush eating our cakes and endure the awful chemical smell.

When I came to pay I did comment on the interruption only to be told they close at 4pm, but don't worry Sunday was the only day they did that!!!

To be honest the food at Benedict's is good, the decor reasonable but this experience has certainly left an awful taste in my mouth regarding customer service, will I return, probably not as there are an abundance of tea rooms to choose from in the area.

“Good food, but soooo sloooow service”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

Went for a Saturday breakfast, and the food was of good quality (excellent croque monsieur and madame) but it took 40 minutes from ordering to arrive. Its a three minute preparation! The only thing was why we needed salad and coleslaw for breakfast? Perhaps it took so long to come they thought it should be lunch!

Food is good but service is bad very slow. Don't know whether it's a lack of staff but very slow on every occasion I've been here.
