“Return trip…still so wonderful!!”
Reviewed 24 November 2013

This was our second stay at La Villa De Mazamet and it was lovely to experience it at a different time of year. La Villa continues to offer the very best in the luxurious chambres d'hôtes experience; we were greeted with true warmth by Mark and our room was pristine and spacious, yet with real character and warmth. Having stayed in the scorching month of August last time, we stayed during the latter week of October; this gave us a very different but equally fantastic experience. The temperature was still in the high 20Cs but we fell in love again with La Villa as we experienced cosy nights in, making the most of the new suite's living space, and trips to local attractions that we had not managed last time - Castres (we couldn't believe we missed it before) and the chestnut festival (a surprising delight). We stayed in for dinner on three occasions and Peter's food continues to 'wow'! Breakfast provided a fresh and colourful range of continental food and we treated ourselves to a massage within La Villa, which was bliss! We know we will return, as we grow to know Peter and Mark and share their experiences in the South of France; we can't wait.

Ten things I love about The Villa Mazamet
In no particular order;
The feeling as you walk through the gates into Mark and Peters domain
The beautiful building - old and yet so well restored it feels as if it had been built yesterday and opened just for you
Trying to cross the highly polished entrance hall to the stairs before Mark appears to welcome you - I have never managed it - with a warm greeting.
The paneling and woodwork of the stairs and floors, impossibly perfect and luxurious
The rooms that look and feel just as they would have 100 years ago and yet all the modern plumbing and electrics there and working
Going down dressed for dinner and sharing a Blanquette de Limoux before the delights of Peters cooking.
The thrill of yet another perfect meal - an old favourite perhaps but somehow even better than you remembered (how does Peter do that?) - or a new dish that introduces a local ingredient always beautifully presented, described and served.
The buzz of anticipation in the dining room coming from the other diners, so many of whom have been here before, know what to expect and are sure that they will return.
The feeling that the Villa is special to the town and the Montagne Noir, an integral part of a real French town.
Peter and Marks guides to the area, originally just a verbal description with highlighter on a copied map, now professionally printed small booklets that should be copied by tourist offices everywhere.
All the above and a great breakfast - can more ever be needed?
Phil Kirk

If you judge the quality of the stay by how many times you make a recomendation for friends and family not to miss the experience, then the Villa and the running of it must get top marks. My wife and I have been travelling and cycling through France each year for the past 15yrs and have owned and operated a Chambre D'hote in the Pyrenees so can speak from experience. Villa De Mazamet has an ambience and quality that will keep us coming back and its owners never let the high standards drop for one moment during our stay. Go and stay, you will not be dissapointed.

There are times when you come across somewhere that you are amazed by on first meeting – but are then disappointed by when you go back – so we hoped we would not be disappointed when we returned to La Villa de Mazamet. From the moment we walked in, to be greeted by Mark and Peter, it was clear that any concerns were unfounded.
As during our first visit, Mark and Peter go out of their way to ensure that your stay with them is a visit to be remembered and savoured – from the excellent cuisine and wine through to the suggestions about places to visit and recommendations for cafes and restaurants to sample the local fare, nothing seems to be too much for them. Equally, if you want to sit and relax in the beautifully manicured gardens with a book, Mark is on hand tempting you with a glass of something produced locally.
The rooms are spacious and well equipped. The food –created using fresh local ingredients – is beautifully prepared and presented – complemented by carefully selected wines from the region.
We will be back to grab a few more moments of this wonderful haven!

Thank you so much to Mark and Peter for a wonderful stay at the beautifully and lovingly restored Villa de Mazamet. Luxurious bedrooms and bathrooms with thoughtful touches throughout added to the indulgent experience. The food prepared was both excellent and creative, using fresh, local ingredients. A bespoke travel guidance service was provided should you wish to take advantage of the hosts' expertise and passion for the beautiful and interesting surrounding area. Most notable was Mark and Peter's warm welcome to their home and their attention to detail and care for their guests. A wonderful, wonderful stay and we look forward to returning to enjoy the indulgence all over again!

Mark & Peter run one of the best B&B's I have ever stayed in - very polish yet relaxed. Allot of thought has gone into the detail of the restoration & the finished product is very homey with 5 star hotel touches. Food is also a stand out at the Villa.
The location is just perfect for Albi, Carcasonne and the Black Mountains....take some time to stop & enjoy the region - its full of surprises.
The town has a unique connection to Australia.........Peter & Mark can tell you more.....

Room Tip: Deluxe Suite has great views of the mountains.

This excellent B&B (it's really more like a boutique hotel) is perfectly located as a base for short day trips to Albi and Carcasonne. The hosts Mark and Peter were great and the food they served was excellent. I am sure we will be back.
