Just returned from a most wonderful 3 night break at La Villa De Mazamet. I can only echo all of the other comments that reviewers are leaving and if you think its too good to be true, then it isn't. The owners Peter and Mark really have thought about everything from the tasteful decor to the delicious home cooked (but restaurant quality) food! The petit spa is a lovely treat for two. We had such a special weekend here over Valentines Day, one that will never ever be forgotten for all the right reasons. Not to detract from the Villa itself, but must mention the breathtaking scenery and fantastic walking routes around. There is also plenty to do around the town itself should you actually be able to drag yourself away from the Villa itself. We are already planning our return visit with a group of friends, as this is not only a wonderful location for a romantic break, but equally placed to host a group of friends.

Many thanks for taking the time to add a review after your stay with us, we really appreciate your kind comments.

It was our pleasure to have welcomed you for our Valentine's weekend and glad to read that you also enjoyed the treat of Le Petit Spa.

The scenery surrounding Mazamet is certainly breathtaking, as you say, and we are very fortunate with our location to be so close to the stunning Montagne Noire mountain range, vineyards, medieval villages and so much more.

It is great to hear that you are planning a return visit with friends and look forward to welcome you back to La Villa.

Thank you once again for choosing to stay with us.

What a fantastic place. Mark and Peter really go all out to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The villa itself is fabulous and we would like to return in the summer to try out the swimming pool and al fresco dining. Peter is the chef and the food is absolutely delicious and plentiful. Rooms are spacious with lovely en suite facilities. There is nothing about this place not to like and I would highly recommend it for a stress free break. Well done to Mark and Peter for making this a place we all want to return to.

Room Tip: Every room is a good room.

If there was a 5+ this would be my rating. La Villa De Mazamet is a little gem, you really don't get places like this! We booked up to celebrate our wedding anniversary with 12 friends and it was such a special weekend for us all, one we will never forget.
The building is stunning and really has the wow factor. The interior design, comfortable bedding, DVD players with lots of new release DVDs, gorgeous coffee, spa, reading room, etc, etc, all inspired me to improve my own home when I got back! A few of us had massages with Sheda, she was excellent and I would highly recommend her. She took time to understand our needs and personalise the treatment.
The standard of food was exceptional and of a good restaurant quality. All washed down with some great wine and in a cheerful and professional manner. Peter and Mark were the perfect hosts, taking time to tell us about the local area and directing us to places we may like to visit. We will definitely be back soon!

Our arrival at La Villa de Mazamet set the tone for the whole experience. Mark was there attentively to greet us as soon as we had parked, and led us into the wonderful Villa, which he and Peter have restored to an excellent standard.

The Villa, once a large family home, has been sympathetically restored and converted to provide every comfort. As Mark led us into the entrance hall with its wonderful polished stone floor, sweeping staircase and wood panelling the beauty of the original building shines through.

We had been very late booking and while the rest of the Villa was full we were fortunate to be offered the top floor suite. The suite is amazing, a large double bedroom, lounge, two televisions and a bathroom to die for.

We ate outside by the pool. Mark very much front of house and Peter the creative force in the kitchen. Talking to Peter and Mark, following a wonderful dinner, the advantage of staying at a hotel run by English hosts became very clear. They love France as much as their guests and have created a series of maps and descriptors that share their favourite tours of the area. We followed a different one of these tours every day; they are gems, we were amazed at what the area offers – and what we would easily have missed if we had stuck to the conventional guide books.

Peter and Mark have created, at the Villa, the experience of a far larger establishment with their attention to detail and quality; but to this they add the personal touch of perfect hosts providing a relaxed and very enjoyable stay.

We look forward to returning.

Room Tip: The suite is worth the extra cost

From the moment I arrived, I was immediately greeted and made to feel welcome. Mark and Peter have a way of understanding and delivering such wonderful customer service and pay close attention to the details when dealing with the guests. Helpful, friendly and attentive does not begin to describe the service. What a delight! The rooms and property are clean and inviting and nicely decorated both inside and out. I felt very comfortable and at home here. Even the other guests were all very friendly. You almost felt like visiting a friends house as we exchanged stories of our days in the area. Breakfast was typical European breakfast and well stocked. Pleasant service to the table for coffee and tea. We did dinner one of the nights and would probably take every dinner at the Villa next time. Wonderful meal and service. I will return when I can stay longer.

Villa de Mazamet is a delightful B & B in the Southwest of France. It is a 5 star experience that can easily compete with small boutique hotels. From the warm welcome when you arrive at this beautiful mansion until the sad farewell of having to leave, Peter and Mark ensure that their guests are well looked after. The mansion has been restored with passion and love and the rooms are spacious and well appointed. Our stay was in a warm spell in August and it was a treat to relax pool side and just chill after a number of days of touring. We elected to dine in as Peter’s cuisine was delicious and it was a treat each night to experience his 4 course dinners all created with local produce.
We would begin our day with a breakfast that offered a wide choice of fresh pastries, local fresh fruit, cheeses, etc. Mark and Peter were always interested in how their guests were going to spend their day and offered great suggestions and some of the most thorough itineraries I have seen. Each of the itineraries is thoughtfully laid out with suggestions of wineries, picnic spots, scenic stops, and restaurants.
Great hosts with wonderful sense of humour – I was assured that each day would be filled with laughter from their dry wit.
Peter and Mark have obviously put a great deal of thought into all the little details that indeed make Villa de Mazamet a “home away from home”, and they have been very successful in doing so. It is without a doubt one of the most special places I have stayed in years of travelling and I look forward to returning.

Room Tip: Superior balcony suites are spacious with fireplace and large bathroom with tub/shower.

Most travellers have probably never heard of Mazamet or have not been tempted to stop there. Think again, for at Mazamet is a pearl for those touring Languedoc or planning to explore further into the south west, the Lot or the Pyrenees.

La villa de Mazamet is a beautifully restored 1930's house operated as a B and B by expatriate Englishmen Peter and Mark. Peter is an accomplished chef while Mark runs the front of house.

Guests will find spacious beautifully appointed double rooms with large ensuites, comfortable reception and sitting areas, Wi-Fi, a pool and spa and that rarest of travel treats, soft, conditioned bath towels (the villa also offers a laundry service for a modest fee). Parking is available in the quiet and well-lit street outside the house and the town centre is a short walk.

For those wishing to dine in, Peter prepares excellent evening meals with fresh local produce daily. There are, of course, restaurants in the town and Mark is happy to make recommendations. The Villa has promoted a number of reciprocal arrangements with businesses in the town and many offer discounts to guests.

Mazamet itself has an interesting past with a strong Australian connection. Once a major wool centre, several streets are named after Australian cities and the town boasts some substantial buildings, a pleasant park and good mix of small shops. Medical, banking and other essential services are readily available.

It is now a market town and has well-serviced rail station which is only a short distance from the Villa which could suit anyone travelling from larger centres such as Montpellier or Toulouse. Cars can be rented locally for visiting nearby attractions such as historic Carcassonne, impressive Albi and the fascinating Minervios wine region. Peter and Mark have a keen awareness of their surroundings and have also prepared a number of touring itineraries which include eating suggestions and highlight many points of interest which may not be in tour guides. We personally found these itineraries excellent.

Mazamet is an easy drive from Provence and La Villa is a truly enjoyable stopover. Peter and Mark are committed and engaging hosts and the level of service and comfort they provide is outstanding.
Well done boys.

Room Tip: Our room was a Superior Balcony at the front of the property. Quiet and peaceful.
