“Superb stay”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

My husband and I spent 5 nights at La Villa De Mazamet in June this year as part of a 2 week stay in France and 3 weeks elsewhere in Europe. It was recommended by friends of friends after they had an exceptional stay there last year.
Peter and Mark are the best possible hosts. They are superbly organised, polite, kind, well informed and they must have the proudest parents and families possible.
As an older couple we didn't need to ask for luggage assistance or any other help as it was always offered. As we were driving from Villereal, a few hours away, Peter very kindly planned the most scenic route which also kept us out of the busiest towns as we had just collected a hire car and haven't driven on the right for some time. His guidance was so clear and greatly appreciated. We enjoyed all of the meals Peter prepared and also the conversations with other guests from around the world while dining. It was a very friendly, happy atmosphere. A lovely couple from Belgium even woke early to join us for breakfast on our final day, and another visiting couple from Britain came to our car to farewell us before we drove away.
Mark's calm, happy manner keeps everything flowing in reception and the dining room. What a team they make in running this luxury B & B.
We had a beautiful top floor room with views to the mountains. It was spacious and so comfortable, beautifully decorated and every attention to detail. Our bath was the most comfortable I'd ever used.
If it didn't take a day and a half to reach Mazamet from our home in Australia we would be very regular visitors. Hopefully we will be able to return another year as it was a very special part of our holiday.
Thank you Mark and Peter for all of your day trip information, it was fantastic.
We are sure you will continue to have every success and we hope to meet again. Come to Australia again!!!!
Kindest regards
Margaret and Bruce

Room Tip: Top floor facing mountains fantastic.

Peter and Mark run the only 5 star B&B I know of. It is like staying at a high end hotel with the best concierge you could imagine. The place is lovely, the meals are outstanding and their care and attention to detail is mind-blowing - they sat us down with a chilled glass of rose when we got there and unloaded our luggage.

There are many other reviews that will fill you in on the place itself - I would like to focus a bit on the area, which Peter and Mark chose very carefully. To say it is undiscovered is perhaps an exaggeration, but it is certainly overlooked in many guides of France, which is truly a shame. On one side of the Black Mountains are gorgeous rolling hills full of sunflowers and wheat - on the other is Carcassone and Minerve and rock outcrops and Mediterranean vegetation. Mazamet, Hautpoul and Labruguiere are three towns that beg to wandered and explored, especially on market days, and they are all minutes away. They also have detailed day trip agendas that cover much of the area.

We had a wonderful stay and couldn't recommend it more.

Room Tip: On the first floor (2nd to North Americans) the two front rooms have Juliet balconies that overlook...

Extremely personal and friendly owners who were always up for a chat, and have great local knowledge.

Other hotel/B&B owners in the region (well, 50 miles away) had heard of this place and it's overwhelmingly positive reputation.

The food and wine were outstanding - creative with local ingredients.

There is nothing in this place that is not done excellently, and there's not a single negative point I have to say about this place or its owners.

We recently returned for another wonderful visit to La Villa De Mazamet. It is the perfect place to relax with Peter and Mark, the perfect hosts. They are thoughtful and helpful and ensured that our stay was fantastic. When we arrived we were welcomed warmly and provided with a cool drink which was much appreciated as the day was hot. Mark suggested interesting places to visit and provided detailed itineraries and maps. The rooms are beautifully appointed and we had a lovely view of the mountains. Peter cooked the most amazing dinners which we really enjoyed.
La Villa De Mazamet is a special place to stay and was a highlight of our trip to France. We look forward to visiting again.
Best wishes, Peter and Mark

After reading so many great reviews on Tripadvisor, we were expecting a lot from the Villa, and we certainly weren't disappointed . Everything about the Villa makes for a great stay, whether it be a short break, or a longer holiday like ours, using it as a base to explore this area of France.
The Villa itself is a beautifully restored building, with lovely gardens, great lounges and an equally great location in Mazamet. The rooms are also stunning, very well equipped and will make you feel at home within hours of your arrival.

Food also plays a big part at the Villa. Whether it is breakfast, a lunch time platter by the pool, or one of Peter's delicious dinners, you will certainly eat ( and drink ) very well indeed.!!! A pre dinner drink with your fellow guests is a nice way to start your evening.

But all the above would count for nothing if it wasn't for Mark and Peter's superb service. They are a mine of information. Where to go, what to see, where to eat etc are all taken care of. All delivered with a great sense of humour and a genuine desire to help you make the most of your stay,

The highlights of this area for us were Albi, Castres, The Black Mountains (we saw more of these mountains than most people!), Homps and the Canal Du Midi, St Chinian, and Minerve. Mazamet is also a great town. Perhaps it is slightly faded from its illustrious past, but it is still a lovely working town, and the Villa is in an ideal position right in the centre.

As for the restaurants when you can drag yourself away from dining at the Villa, there are plenty of options to suit all. Mark and Peter arranged reservations at a number of restaurants for us and they were all superb, Domaine Gayda and Les Secret Gourmand should be on everyone's list. Domaine Gayda is very popular, but Peter managed to get us a table for lunch, twice .......it was that good.

All in all, Peter and Mark should be extremely proud of La Villa De Mazamet. and especially proud of the service that they provide. Like most reviewers on here, we can't wait to return.

Overall I don't think

Recently spent 2 glorious days at this elegant and beautifully restored Villa after recommendation from a friend. After travelling extensively through France the Villa did not disappoint, and now one of our favourite places to stay!. Mark & Peter provide that rare mix of professionalism, exceptional service, friendliness and attention to detail in a relaxed manner that leaves you feeling totally at ease. Dining and wines of quality using fresh local ingredients, and breakfast was a treat with an array of tempting pastries, fresh fruit and a delicious Museli bar! We would like to thankyou for the up-grade to the lux suite what an added pleasure in the spacious and sumptuous surroundings and also for your informative and extensive knowledge of the area. We did stop off at 'Pazanas' what a beautiful village and the best artisan Ice-cream we have ever tasted!. Wishing you both continued success and we hope to visit you again! Best regards Catherine & Philip Rowland

Just got back from our second stay at La Villa and still great place to spend a week. It's hard to mention something that hasn't been in the reviews on this site yet, but let me tell you our 10 personal reasons to book a stay at La Villa :-)

1. Mark & Peter : best hosts ever! Always friendly and funny, lovely guys.
2. The room : we booked a Deluxe room (beautiful view on the mountains), it has everything you need : good bed, soft sheets, enough space, large bathroom with huge bathtub, new Gilchrist & Soames amenities, Tassimo machine to make a coffee/tea/hot chocolate,...
3. La Villa : beautiful house, lots of charm. My husband had a massage and loved it, very relaxing.
4. The garden : always quiet and lots of comfy seats to do some reading, have a drink,...
5. The DVD collection : don't worry if you have a rainy day : Mark & Peter own an impressive DVD collection with loads of recent movies and series.
6. Le Bistrot des Saveurs : a great restaurant in Castres (about 20 minutes by car). Mark & Peter booked us a table and we had a lovely evening here : great food, friendly people, nice atmosphere. We will go back for sure.
7. The possibilities in the area : this time we did a boat trip on Canal du Midi (nice views, relaxing), saw Rennes Le Château, Hautpoul, Castres,...
8. Mazamet : nice town for a walk, we liked the Saturday market, cause it's not a typical tourist market : very few tourists, all locals. Good pizza at La Scala.
9. The breakfast : fresh French bread, homemade jam, lovely lemon cakes, fresh fruits, cheese, meat, juices, Nespresso,... Great way to get awake :-)
10. Last but not least : the fantastic dinners. Peter is a wonderful cook who creates great dishes. We had a combination of "classics" we tasted last year (but were very happy to eat them again) like the boeuf encroute (!!), the marinated salmon, the goat cheese tartelette, the chicken suprème with heavenly sauce,... and new dishes like lemon posset, tonka bean panna cotta, comté soufflé, fantastic ravioli,... If you like to talk about food/recipies, Peter is your man! :-)

We really enjoyed this second stay, hope to get back real soon!

Room Tip: The deluxe room is very nice, great view on the mountains.
