Like other reviewers, we were on a tour of the Picardy battlefields. Although not absolutley central to the Somme area, Arras is a good base, as is the Hotel. It is more than basic - clean and comfortable with good amenities. Breakfast is ample: the usual continental favourites and one 'hot dish' which was scrambled eggs while we were there. If you want a Full English, try England. Plenty of good coffee.
The staff were helpful, especially with our requirements for packed lunches and at least one special diet in the party. Their fluency in English was enough - no more or less than you might reasonably expect, with no real diffculties. If you are not out at the trenches, there is plenty to do in the town and reasonable bars and restaurants are not far away, although our hotel dinners were fine.
Don't be put off by looking at the map - the station is just across the square, but you do not hear it.More
