“Escapade in a historical house !”
Reviewed 5 March 2013

A very enjoyable stay in the heart of Arras !!

Warm welcome and interesting chat with the new owners and the other guests, amazing extensive visit of the house including the incredible underground network. Rodney and Phillip are fantastic people.

The room we chose was at the top floor under the roof in the old attics which was very quiet and comfortable. The decoration in the sitting area could be revisited though. The bedding quality was just fine for one or two nights (bed too hard, the pillow are chaotic and the duvet too thick but the sheets were ok).

The house it self is more than spacious. the sitting areas are very nice + a stand of tea and coffee are available at all time of the day with and huge collection of tea from Mariage Frères.

The Breakfast is not included in the price but everything was there, freshness, quantity as well as quality.

We look forward to visit again.

Le Corne d'Ore was taken over by new owners in December who have immediately imposed their own style of wonderfully welcoming and generous hospitality. The rooms are large, warm, comfortable and stylish and the breakfast as good as you'll find anywhere; the collection of Mariage freres teas almost daunting, though not for tea lovers of course. Easy parking across the road and the beautiful main square 50 yards away. All in all, this is one of the best places we've stayed in France and we've tried a few. We'll be back.

Stayed at La Corne D'Or previously and were very impressed and were slightly anxious when Franck advised us he had 'moved on' - needn't have worried Rodney and Phillipe are just as hospitable and the standards are just as high. Nice homely touches with the 24 hour access to good quality tea, coffee and soft drinks. The rooms are clean and very comfortable and there was a wide range of choice at breakfast, including cooked food if required. Nothing was too much trouble and long may it continue.

Room Tip: The loft is amazing!

Utterly superb. Not much to look at from the front, but inside is a lovely old characterfull building, well equipped and tastefully decorated. Very comfortable with touches such as a fridge available to help yourself to fruit juice and water and unlimited tea and coffee downstairs. Comfortable bed and a great breakfast, I was offered eggs and ham, and offered more when I had finished. The hosts are excellent and I can’t recommend this place highly enough. On a practical note, its is located opposite the Mairie (Town Hall) at the rear of the two main squares. Parking is in the Mairie car park which is free from 6pm – 9am, then 2.50 Euros for two hours thereafter. I would recommended and return.

Stayed the just recently and had a wonderful time.

I stayed with my 23 month old and husband and frank the owner was very amiable. He couldn't have been more helpful and was great with our daughter.

We had a room in the loft and he had set out the cot and I really liked the room as it was very modern with lots of personal touches. Breakfast was cooked to order and everything was fresh. Very good value at €9

Highly recommend.

Our goal was to visit Vimy Ridge (which every Canadian should do) and we looked at a map to see what town was near there. The closest in our direction was Arras so we used TripAdvisor to pick our B & B. They were spot on with their number one rating. We have been to many B & B’s and you can always tell who is doing it just for the money and who has a real passion for meeting and taking care of guests. Franck is definitely the “meet and take care of” type.

The hotel is beautifully restored and well looked after. The location is a stone’s throw from the main square with restaurants and shopping. You will be surprised with Arras because it is a very unique town with their architectural building façades and cobble streets. Considering about one third of the town was destroyed in the war it is amazing to see what has happened.

Franck gave us two pieces of advice. The first, when we arrived after a long drive, was to go see the Vimy monument at dusk/night when it was all lit up. We did so grudgingly and it was unbelievable. At one point we were the only ones there on a moonlit night. Rather hard to take pictures with a giant lump in your throat but we were so glad we went. The next morning we went back and saw the visitor’s center, trenches and cemeteries.
The second tip was to go to see the Wellington Mines which I must admit I thought would be boring. Not at all, they have done a fantastic job of preserving these mines that the allies used in the First World War and we highly recommend it.

We saw quite a few of the rooms at the hotel and they all look nice. You have to keep in mind though that some have bathtubs with no shower so pick what you prefer. As well, think twice about the top floors as there is no elevator. No big deal but you should be aware of that.

Another thing to look out for is to take a good look at the outside walls on the buildings near the hotel. You will still see the damage from bullets and shrapnel from the war.

Thank you Franck, you made our visit that much better.

After 8 nights in Northern France we can easily say that this was our favorite place to stay. It's just as everyone else has said in their reviews: a beautiful building, very nicely decorated rooms, modern bathrooms, a comfortable bed, kind and attentive hosts, etc. The breakfast was the best we had in France. Sadly, this was the last night of our trip and we were there only one night.
