“Fantastic accommodation”

I do not intend writing a long review for this property, many of the other reviews already cover just how good Histoire de Maison really is. Myself and two friends stayed here for four nights while visiting WW1 battlefields and the house is ideally situated for this. We honestly cannot find any faults whatsoever with the accommodation, and would like to give a great big thank you to Gerald and Valerie. Your house is lovely.
I cannot speak highly enough of this property, it really is a gem, book to stay here and you will not be disappointed.

“Excellent Easter break”
Reviewed 12 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

We found this Gite via Booking.com and all the positive reviews turned out to be correct. The Gite is just 5 min away from the main train station which has trains direct to Paris which is just an hour or so away. The Gite is capable of sleeping 8 people in 3 bedrooms + within the grounds are 2 other smaller Gite's both of which sleep 2.
The layout of the main Gite is a large lounge/dining room and a kitchen some people would die for back home. Our bedroom had a TV in it and bathroom on suite with a good hot shower. Outside in the garden it faces south and catches all the sun in the afternoon.
The main square of Arras is just 10minutes away with excellent shops & restaurants and nearby (again a 10min walk) is "The Wellington museum" showing the underground tunnels & passageways used in the battle of Arras in WW1.
Overall, the Gite is well placed for visiting Arras and the many WW1 battle sites and memorials and comes highly recommended and we would certainly go back again.
If there is a downside, then it is that the TV channels are all in French so take some DVD's with you or listen to the radio via the free Wifi via a laptop or tablet.

“Easter Break”

My husband found this lovely Gite through Booking.com and we were not disappointed. The hosts live next door to the property so are available to deal with any queries one may have on site. Valerie speaks some English but her husband Gerard is learning. The Gite was 5 mins away from the station but we never were troubled by the trains or people outside in the street. It was surprisingly and pleasantly quiet. There was off street parking as well. Everything was secure, with locked gates to the property and the garage doors operated by a special fob.

Out of the Gites on offer, we were given the house. It houses up to 10 people and we were delighted with what was on offer. We had a lovely spacious bedroom with on suite shower and toilet. The other rooms to the property not used were locked which did not worry us. The kitchen, dining and living areas where large and spacious. The kitchen housed a cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and a set of cutlery and crockery. There was also a garden area outside surrounded by bushes for privacy.

The TV only has French channels so if you do not speak the language you may find it a problem. We were fine, we listened to the radio and programmes on my husband's laptop. There is free Wifi too.

There is a local Carrefour close by for all the groceries you may need and the town is about 10 mins walk away. I am disabled and have limited mobility but I did not find staying in the house too much of a problem.

Within the grounds are two other Gites which our hosts own. One is on Trip Advisor and the other on Booking.com but both would be suitable for people with disabilities.

“What a shame”

Good location although noisy street in the morning and noise from railway station from early hours.
Tasteful decoration and attention to detail.
BUT, HUGE HOWEVER,
even though we had booked the whole house we were faced with having to pay an extra 150 euros for our 3 night stay. The owners knew we were paying 270 euros for 3 nights and that we had paid for exclusive use of the house for that period. Why then insist we pay an extra 150 euros for use of another bedroom?
Totally unreasonable but we arrived late in the day; an emotional visit paying tribute to First World War relative who lost his life defending Lens and Arras and we did not have time or energy or emotional capacity to argue.
