A wet weekend before Christmas, noon and dripping from the rain, our welcome was as warm as the radiator next to our table. Our maître d' took coats and explained the menu, this is not a fast food establishment, three courses commenced with starters for for the highest of establishments and where equally matched by our main course and sweet, or cheese in my case. We are English with an embarrassingly, rudimentary handling of French but at no point did we feel out of place even having the menu translated at our table. If you like service, ambience, warmth, and the best of food l'ilot vert is "the" place to visit and thanks for making a winter weekend break in to a summer Sunday lunch

Escaped in here - an unprepossessing place in the old town on Rue de Lille, with some remarkable lime green decor accompanied by quirky art -as the rain squalled down, for Sunday lunch in November. We were swiftly settled, and well looked after from then on. Bread of exceptional quality set the tone, but each course continued the style. Small portions (a good thing for we older folk), great depth of flavour, imaginative combinations, a €29 menu to remember. The fish stood out, but my velouté still lingers with me. This seems family run, and they finally distinguished themselves by being very reasonable about our wildly overstaying our welcome, and for producing a google translation of the menu which was unnecessary but entertaining, as Google hasn't met restaurateurs of this imagination before, I suspect. For anyone passing through Boulogne, make a detour for a surprise. I do hope they thrive - they deserve to.

This is probably the most handsome restaurant in Boulogne sur-mer. It situated in the middle of the main street of old town. It's very modern, clean, comfortable place to dine.
We went there twice while we stayed in Boulogne-sur-mer, and tasted 6 different dishes.
All dishes were beautifully presented. Little attention to details made each dishes enjoyable to watch before tuck in.
I specially loved my starter, caponata with soft boiled egg on top. It was heavenly.
The mains were good and solid. I enjoyed the fish dishes. The fish cooked perfectly, and sauce was tasty, it was not " mind blowing ", but definitely, great.
The pork dish was a bit disappointed as pork was very tough. However, it was full of flavour which we liked a lot.
The desert was good, it was nice finish for the meal with very good coffee they serve.
The lady of front of the house was ever so welcoming and young waitress was attentive, also the main waiter was professional.
Tasty dishes, wonderful presentation, great service, we had a lovely time and enjoyed meal there.
They have set menu, also you can go for a la carte. It can be pricey, but It worth it.
We'll definitely go back I'ilot Vert when we ever visit Boulogne-sur-mer again. It will be the first place we'll have our meal !

We loved this place. Foie gras starter, roasted ham with mushrooms on toast -- exquisite tasting -- then chocolate dessert with wine and coffee. The prices were so reasonable for food this good. It would have been a hundred pounds for each of us in London. We had a great time and want to come back soon.

Disappointed! In essence, the taste and execution of the food simply did not match the clever, beautiful and artistic presentation. As a result we felt slightly tricked and let down. The best of our 6 courses was the starter of foie gras (5 euro supplement), which was tasty, creative and interesting, but my 1 prawn starter (2 euro supplement) - yes, one prawn - despite being nicely cooked and seasoned was simply not special enough to either warrant carrying a supplement, nor to indeed be so slight in size. My main of gammon was dreadful. Two large cubes of gammon that were so tough I struggled to cut them with a sharp knife let alone chew them. Neither did the gammon taste of anything much. I brought the texture issue to the attention of our waiter but he simply shrugged his shoulders, told us that is how it is and then walked off. We were a little annoyed by his attitude. However, when the dish looks so beautiful does it really matter how poorly it is cooked! Both our desserts were also divine to look at but in reality were probably really quite simple to create and did not taste anything as exciting and interesting as they looked.

Overall, the service was poor. In addition to not taking our concerns seriously about our main our waiter also rushed us to order, and despite telling him three times we were not ready he reappeared each time very quickly after having been sent away. He appeared to be on a mission to get the orders into the kitchen very early on in the evening. He at no point offered to top up our glasses and after clearing away each course he did not ask us if we had enjoyed our food. Neither did he do a check during each course to ask if all was well. When we asked him to explain a little more about certain dishes at ordering point - such as cooking method or provenance, his answers were fairly vague.

After our mains had been removed, however, the manageress did ask us if all was well. We explained what happened about the mains and her waiter. She was genuinely apologetic and even brought us a complimentary drink to compensate. We appreciated this touch but overall too many things were not acceptable enough to make all well. If you want clean, pleasant and modern surroundings and food that looks very pretty to look at but may not be matched by taste and texture then this is an ideal place to dine.
