Met Lise's mum the other day when we stayed for one night in Boulogne sur Mer. She was very charming and friendly and I think disappointed that we did not have time to stay for breakfast. She showed us up to the third floor where we had booked the Woodpecker suite but she gave us a choice of a further room which too was vacant. Both rooms really lovely - full of character, the B&B was spotlessly clean. We stuck to our original choice of the Woodpecker suite with double bed and then separate room with sliding door across where we had 2 single beds. The bed was very comfortable (although a little on the squeaky side) and the rooms were spacious and nicely decorated. Bathroom very small - toilet a few inches apart from sink and sink few inches apart from shower cubicle - did nt bother me as long as I could have a good warm shower. Found bathrobes in the wardrobe. Too cold to go in the garden but I can imagine that it is great in the Spring/summer time. Good location near city centre and around the corner and up a steep road is the old part of the city - nice restaurants and bars there. I would recommend La Voliere, is a very hospitable and good value for money, where service is given with a smile.

Room Tip: The woodpecker room is very quiet situated at the back away from the main road.

Second time we have stopped here. Stayed for four nights in October 2012. Made very welcome by the family. Easy to park outside or nearby which is free. About a ten minute walk to the main restaurants.Very good and ample breakfast and you wont go hungry. I think the best test is will we go back for a third time and the answer is a definite YES.

Stayed for one night in September 2012. Needed to stay near to Calais for an early morning crossing back to England. Touring on motorbikes and so needed secure parking for 3 bikes. We received a wonderful, warm and friendly welcome from our host. We were able to park our bikes in their integral, locked garage. A few minutes walk to the town and we were given tips where to eat. Our hosts accommodated our early start by preparing our breakfast before their other guests. Much appreciated. Spotless, spacious room on the top floor.

We were looking for a B+B rather than a hotel, partly because hotels can be quite anonymous and because we had bicycles needing secure storage for our 2 nights in Boulogne. Although the roadside exterior is functional rather than attractive, the rest of the property is lovely. We were well wecomed by Lise's mother. An excellent choice and we would hope to go back one day.

This was our second time in Boulogne, so we knew what to expect of the town this has been said in other reviews. This hotel has the most welcoming host She made us feel like old friends within a seconds of meeting, she has a wonderful nature and is incredibly friendly and helpful. Communicating in English to the best of her ability and my limited French made our stay all that more enjoyable. An extra benefit to this hotel is the use of a kitchen diner with all amenities if you want to make a meal . We used it once for a snack and used the fridge to keep drinks cool and our market purchases fresh. I highly recommend this hotel but you should be aware it is on a road that is busy through the day and very close to a railway line, this means it can be a noisy around 6am through to about 6pm

We had a devil of a job to find this place, and the landlady Lise had to come and find us - the house is just near the rail bridge and train station. There is a large car park a few hundred metres away but we were able to park on the pavement outside. You enter through a large hall and the rooms are upstairs. For our family of four we had one room with double bed and ensuite shower and toilet, and a second room with two single beds and toilet. The front bedrooms have electronic metal shutters to seal off the noise and light if required. Breakfast can be eaten either in the kitchen or garden and was bread, cereals, meats, cake, yoghurt, hot chocolate etc. The walled city of Boulogne is 15 minutes walk up the hill and well worth the visit.
Lise is bright and chatty - words fly out of her mouth. She has a few English phrases but that's all. We all really enjoyed the stay and felt privileged to share her home. The cost of Euro 95 including breakfast was great value. I would have no hesitation in returning.

We stayed here in preference to a traditional hotel and what a great decision it turned out to be. Situated just a few minutes from both the town centre and Old Town (albeit up a steep hill), it is perfectly placed for a quiet location and exploring the city. The charming Lise is just the prefect host, making you feel very welcome in her house. A continental breakfast is included and is as good as any hotel, with the addition of Lise ensuring that you have more than enough to leave you fell feed and watered. We stayed in the "Paradisier" room and found it to be very comfortable, roomy and enjoyed a very good night's sleep. Overall, I would say this is exceptional value for money and can highly recommend "La Voliere". Next time we visit Boulogne, we will not waste money on a hotel.
