La Bononia
Reviewed 22 June 2014

We had a night here after arriving at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris and before driving to the Eurotunnel in Calais. We wanted an area that hadn't been bombed into oblivion in WWII so would still have old buildings and character but that was still close to Calais. La Bononia was a great choice for our family group of 3 adults...extremely comfortable bedroom and a massive bathroom. Easy and free parking on the street outside. The hosts Caroline and Martial couldn't have been nicer or more helpful and truly did start our European holiday off perfectly. You won't be sorry if you stay here!

Room Tip: The big room for 3 is ideal.

Booked here for a night when we popped to France - was a great find. Close to the town centre, easy on street parking, lovely room and great reception. Hosts were very friendly and would have been better if we had a few more nights to stay.

We stayed for one night with Caroline and Martial. What a lovely friendly couple. Their English is excellent and we were made to feel very welcome. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The area is quiet and we slept well in the comfortable bed. There is ample parking right outside which is a bonus. A five minute walk into the old town to dine at one of their recommended restaurants (La Petite Auberge). Breakfast the next morning was great fun as we ate around a large dining table with the other guests and Caroline having a lovely chat. We highly recommend visiting here and thank you both for your hospitality. Will definitely stay here again when visiting France.

We just had a lovely stay here. We stayed in a family room overlooking the street with a fab shower. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners who were kind and helpful. A short walk into the old town and lots of good restaurants. An excellent place to stay - it got the thumbs up from all of us!

Thank you Caroline and Martial for looking after us so well. We stayed 3 nights at La Bononia and were very pleased with our choice. We had a large comfortable room which was very clean and nicely furnished overlooking the gardens. Also a large ensuite bathroom. Loved the breakfasts and the chats with Caroline and Martial and felt like family friends and not just B&B guests. We walked into the Old Town each night to eat where there is an excellent choice of restaurants. This is perfectly located for touring the area, shopping or just relaxing. Will certainly stay here again when we are in the area.

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely.

Caroline and Martial are delightful hosts who enjoy the company of their guests each morning, around the breakfast table. Their suggestions for places to lunch or dine were excellent, as were the places to visit.
We were welcomed to La Bononia by their daughters and shown to our comfortable room on the first floor. It was pleasantly spacious with a very large bathroom, tiled in stylish black! The story of the house and our hosts' purchase of it is a story they will share with you.
While it may be a five minute walk to the Old town, it is probably twice that on the return as the B&&B is on a rise above Boulogne. Car Parking is available in the street and was never a problem.
