We stayed here on the way back from two weeks camping in France. The hotel is at the bottom of the hill with the old town at the top. It is a steep walk up but makes that glass of wine taste better when you do get up there. And the walk down after dinner is easy! The hotel is very basic and cheap but clean and adequately furnished. The room was a reasonable size and the bathroom small but fine for one night. There was free car parking (though I am glad we got there early as this was full when we went out again at 8pm)
The staff were friendly and the check in process very simple and quick. Boulogne is a great place to spend your last night in France. It is surprisingly pretty with a lovely little walled old town and some nice restaurants. There isn’t very much to do though so arriving at 3pm worked fine. The next day we got up early and drove the 20 minutes to Calais to be at the big CarreFour hypermarket in Cite Europe by 9am (stocking up before we got a lunch time ferry home).
We didn’t have breakfast so I can’t comment on the food. I got a coffee from the machine in the reception just as we were leaving and it was the most unpleasant machine coffee I have ever had! A vaguely decent coffee machine wouldn’t go a miss as there isn’t really anywhere nearby get a coffee.
The only major complaint was about the bed. It was really comfortable but it was incredibly noisy. Any time either of us rolled over it creaked and squeaked really loudly. It was very annoying!
