Loved this little gem of a hotel which was exquisite, very clean, perfectly stylish rooms, fabulous gardens, secure parking, very genuine friendly staff and super host Philipe and his Wife. Very good food, excellent ambience and fascinating WW1 memorabilia. This is a hotel I would return to in a heartbeat - it had everything. We loved it. Thank you Philipe and 'team' for making our stay more special and without doubt, the next time we are travelling through, be assured we will visit you once again. Best wishes (Iredale 29/7/14)

This was my second stay at Philipe's Hotel Beatus. Philipe the owner, is also an amazing battlefield historian - notably regarding the battle of Cambrai in the 1st World War. The amazing thing is that he has taken an older hotel and instilled in it an extraordinary amount of charm turning what might have been just another hotel into a destination itself.

When sitting outside in an armchair, sipping a wine from the bar, one would be hard pressed to believe that one was anywhere but in a rural French setting. The landscaping around the hotel is immaculate. The rooms, I believe, still don't have air conditioning, but both times that we were there - once in April and once in June, we simply kept the windows open at night and slept like babies. The onsite restaurant was excellent, though Cambrai has a multitude of restaurants that one simply has to indulge in while visiting this remarkable little town. Highly recommended.

Not knowing what to expect at this hotel we arrived with some trepidation. We prefer to travel by coach so when we disembarked and were asked to follow the green carpet. I wondered what we had let our selves in for. The green carpet (astro turf) led us through a garden area into the hotel reception and it was so pleasant, friendly, inviting etc, etc. we knew we were going to enjoy our stay. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable, breakfast was to a good continental standard including scrambled egg and bacon, and there was no complaint at all with evening meals. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff and the owner is passionate about the surrounding area and gave a fabulous talk about WW1 activities. He had also unearthed a British tank "Deborah" which he now has on display in a barn a short drive away.

The gardens, the public rooms, restaurant, everywhere were a treat and certainly looking forward to a revisit.

I was here on a Battlefield Tour organised by an "old boy" of my old school. The charm and beauty of the location, welcome and service provided the ideal complement to the occasion. Several of the attendees had been my contemporaries, back in the 1950s; in my case 1954-58!
Thank you … very much indeed.

A lovely quiet hotel in nice grounds perfect for an overnight stay from the UK to Switzerland.
The rooms were very nicely furnished, much better standard than expected with a very comfortable bed and modern bathroom. The meal was good value too

We were passing through en route to Lille and stayed here for two nights only, to look at the Matisse gallery and the nearby graves of wilford Owen and Edward Thomas, both war poets. As soon as we approached the entrance we were enchanted by the beautiful archway of flowers. Our spacious and pretty room overlooked it, but we were not disturbed by visitors. We slept ten hours both nights which is unusual for us! Wonderful friendly staff, good food and clean and comfortable room. We are now staying in Lille in a five star hotel which does not match the standards of Hotel Beatus. The hotel beatus is ideal for a visit to the Matisse gallery and of course for the battlefield tours. I gather that most of its clients are English and they know how to look after us for a very good price. We shall stay there again if we return. Oh, almost forgot, they even had tea making facilities in the room!

Room Tip: Our room was 21 and to be recommended.

Here again on a Battlefield Tour and this Hotel is always a joy to stay at. Set in a garden which would be particularly lovely in the better weather, the rooms are French styled, comfortable and individual and the bathrooms are large. It's not a cookie cutter place - it feels like the people running it are proud and enjoy what they do. The little bar is a great place to meet before a beautifully cooked, high quality dinner. I hope to return.
